the economic impact of i-69

PRESENTER:Samuel Sarvis, Deputy Commissioner of Major Program Management, Indiana Department of Transportation

The Interstate 69 extension is a 142 mile long highway project designed to improve safety, mobility and economic development in Indiana, as well as serve a vital link in the overall corridor stretching from Canada to Mexico. Nearly 70 miles of Greenfield highway construction is underway, with an additional 30 miles to be under way by the end of this year. The interstate is expected to open in Gibson, Pike, Daviess and Greene Counties by the end of the year, opening numerous opportunities for growth. The final 40+ miles follows roughly the SR 37 pathway from Bloomington to Indy, and is in environmental review process.

This program will focus on the opening dates for key sections and interchanges in areas currently under construction and the planning process and possible timeline for the road improvements in and north of Bloomington. The program will also highlight the potential economic impact of the new corridor.
