PLANT TISSUES

PLANT TISSUES In plants meristematic tissues are classified into

three types of permanent tissue.• Simple permanent tissue• Complex permanent tissue• Special or Secretary tissue Common types of simple permanent tissues are

parenchyma, Collenchyma, Sclerenchyma. Complex tissue is also known as vascular tissue.

Common types of complex tissue are Xylem and Pholem.

Parenchyma

Composed of cells with the simplest structureSeen in the soft parts of the plantHelps in photosynthesis and the storage of food

Collenchyma

Composed of cells that are thick only at the corners of the cell wallProvides flexibility and support to plant parts

Sclerenchyma

Composed of cells that are uniformed thick all over the wallProvides strength and support to plant parts

Xylem

Transports water and minerals absorbed by the roots to the leaves . Has thick cell walls and therefore provide support and strength to the plant.

Tubes formed from elongated cells

Phloem

Transports food synthesized in the leaves to various parts of the plant body.

Composed of tubular inter –connected cells.
