Design of MRF damper-for an Indian automobile
Supervisor: Prof. K. Gupta
Mohit Bansal (2009ME10593)Pranav Jaiswal (2009ME10607)
Introduction• A Damper filled with magneto-rheological fluid which is controlled by a magnetic
field, usually using an electromagnet. This allows the damping characteristics of the shock absorber to be continuously controlled by varying the power of the electromagnet.
• Basic operational modes of MRFs: (a) flow model, (b) direct shear mode, and (c) squeeze mode
• Mono tube, Twin tube & Double-ended MRF dampers
Problem Definition & Objective Ride comfort directly dependent on suspension system Uneven road profiles in India Newest development in the field of suspension systems are
MRF dampers- simple in construction, compromise between high frequency isolation and natural frequency isolation, semi-active control, little power consumption & very quick response
1. Simulation on suspension system of a selected Indian car Optimized damping coefficient 2. Design of MRF damper using the optimized damping coefficient.3. Fabrication and Performance test
Literature Review1. Typical magneto-rheological dampers according to
arrangement configurations of magneto-rheological fluid cylinders and magneto-rheological fluid control valves
2. Design, development and testing of new fail-safe semi active (MRF) damper for high-mobility multi-purpose wheeled vehicle
3. Design, fabrication and evaluation of magneto-rheological damper
4. Application of MR dampers in automobile suspensions
