Our Approach to the Study of Law
• Theory meets practice method: first, learn the theory behind these realities; then apply the learned knowledge into practical situations.
• Examples: Case Study assignments, take-home exams with drafting exercises, Legal Negotiation Workshop course (mandatory).
14
Our Approach to the Study of Law
• There is no single, unified body of International Law on business transactions. As such, the study of the legal theory is not focused on a single jurisdiction.
• Rather, we study the business rationales and business principles on examples and case studies from various jurisdictions
• Examples: USA, UK, The Netherlands, Germany, France.
15
The “Law and Economics” method
• At the IBL Master, we go much further than just learning the “Law in the Books” or “Black Letter Law”.
• We use basic Economic theory to understand: (1) what are the effects of (new) rules and regulations; (2) what is the reason behind the current legal provisions; (3) should the current legal provisions be changed and how.
• Our goal: to reach an efficient legal framework for Businesses.

A Comparative Perspective in Your Study
• We assess Business Law from two different approaches: Common Law jurisdictions and Civil Law jurisdictions and try to see which one is more efficient, through a Law & Economics perspective.
