At a Glance Both muckraking and yellow journalism were techniques used to sell newspapers and magazines in the 19 th Century; however, while Muckrakers were investigative journalist in search of exposing corruption and calling for the action of reforms, yellow journalism was a technique used to sell newspapers that often involved little or no researched evidence, but rather exciting, and often false, headlines were used.
