LocationThe YHA is located at Loosehill Hall in Hope

Valley, Derbyshire. Not the Castleton down the road.

Travel arrangementsOn the date, the children will arrive at school as

normal on the Thursday.

We will then register and as soon as the coach arrives set off for Castleton, aiming to get there for around lunch time.

The coach will pick us up again on the Friday (after lunch) and return us to school in time for 3:15 pm.

AccommodationWhilst at the YHA, the children will sleep in rooms of

four or more, boys together and girls together. There are bunk beds in all the rooms, and most have en-suite bathrooms. Bedding is provided, but the beds don’t come made up. Get teaching the kids now!

FoodThe children we need a packed-lunch to eat

when we arrive at Castleton. If your child pays for school meals, or is eligible for free school meals, a packed lunch will be provided for them. A cooked meal will be provided on the Thursday evening, last year consisting of

Breakfast and lunch will also be provided on the Friday before our return to school.

What will happen whilst we’re there?

Whilst at Castleton, your children will be furthing their knowledge of the Celts and Romans, taking part in:

Roman problem solving skills

Archery

Becoming a Roman army, with Roman shields, battle formations and the chance to defeat each other in battle.

Siege engine building and firing the catapults at each other.

Fossil printing

Contact whilst we’re thereWe will update our class blogs and twitter whilst

at Castleton to keep you updated as to what your children are taking part in.

Health warning – signal can be very temperamental. In the case of poor, or no, signal we will contact school who will let you know via text message how we’re getting on.

LogisticsThis year, due to additional school subsidies, the

cost of the trip is only £30.

Places are limited – due to room availability at Castleton we are only able to take 62 children. To secure your child’s place, please return the reply slip with a £10 deposit (which will be deducted from your final bill). The rest of the money can be paid in installments or in one lump sum.

Remember: first come, first served.
