Countryside

• In the northern zone it is placed Appennino Siculo. The rest of the island doesn't have other mountainous chains, but some single disconnected reliefs. In the western zone  Ghibellini Mountains are found. In the zone oriental south there are Iblei Mountains where the volcano of Etna is found. Etna is still one of the volcanos activate greater than the world. Its terminal cone reaches the 3269 ms. and it has covered big part of the year from the snows.

Weather • 4 seasons: the weather in our area is

always very mild.• In the spring the weather is very beautiful

and mild (about 25° - 28°). In the air there is a wonderful smell of orange blossom.

• In the summer there is very hot (about 40° - 45°).

• In the autumn the weather is very mild (about 20°). Sometimes rain.

• In the winter there isn’t very could (about 15° - 20)

• * clothes: in all the seasons we wear very light clothes except in the winter ( from December ) we wear clothes more heavy.

• * length of the days: the longest day in the year is the 21th June the light is for 21 hours,

• The shortest day in the year is the 21th of December. The dark is for 11 hours.

Water• Sicily's longest river is the Salso (144km/

89miles). It create the Lago di Pozzillo. Of the meagre rivers the largest are the Simeto, Belice, and Platani, Dittaino and Gornalunga; most of the smaller streams are dry in summer. The island suffers from a shortage of water.

• Sicilian waters are rich in fish, especially in the Strait of Messina where upwards of 140 species are known, including unusual deep-sea varieties.

• The Belice in western Sicily is also dammed and harnessed for electricity.

• Within Sicilian waters are included many lesser islands: the Aeolian or Lipari Islands to the NE; Ustica to the NW; the Egadi to the West and Pantelleria and the distant Pelagian Isles to the SW.

• Sicily does not naturally lack for water

Plants and trees

• Oranges, citruses, olive trees and vineyards.

• Mediterranean plants: ginestra, lavender, rosmarino, oleastro, palm dwarf, lentisco and others.

• In the great forests (Nebrodi, Madonie, Peloritani and on the Etna) we can found: lecci, corks, oaks, roverelle, chestnut trees, faggi.

• the oleandro, the platano.• Also plants introduced from

the man in more or less recent times: fichi of India, screw and trees from fruit, we find agaves, palms, ficus favourite, cedars, gelsi, eucalyptuses.

Animals • The wild cat, the martora, the

ghiro, the istrice, the wild rabbit, the lepre, the donnola.

• Between the birds the capovaccaio, the travelling hawk, the gheppio, nibbio and the Aquila, the coturnice, the imperial crow.

• Migratory birds: the rose-colored gull, the rondine of greater sea, the spatula.

• Invertebrates: between the snakes mention deserves one the beautifulst one colubro leopardino.
