The Barbie doll is an iconic image. The symbol of the "feminine ideal" which has caused women

to perceive and recognize this figure in a personal light. Further, her existence in the marketplace creates a continual awareness in women

to identify and evolve with this object as she captures the culture.

A Barbie doll that represent Balinese women is interesting, in despite they’re naturally beautiful, a Barbie that represent a Balinese young girl can be a messenger to deliver such a these messages:

1. Independence; Since they were little, Balinese women have been demanded to be independent, fulfilling their own needs, even they had to do household chores, including caring for younger siblings. Unlike the boys who are more free to spend their time to play;

2. Time management; Balinese women have been trained to manage their time in such a way, so they can out a balance between household work and school. Women are required to get up earlier than boys to help their mothers doing household activities. Women who get up late are considered to be lazy, spoiled, inappropriate, and so on, while boys can get up late and still considered to be reasonable. If the boys were diligent, it is a plus or could be due to the situationin which female family members are not present;

3. Creativity; since childhood Balinese girls have been taught to creatively use their leisure time. Any spare time should be used for productive activities, such as: making offerings, learning to cook, feeding cattle, learning to dance, etc.


BALI – Island of Thousand Reasons, Unluckiness & Creative Creatures

Far way up to the north of Bali there are six ancient villages around cauldron of Batur Lake which is often conceived by Bali Age Village. The local people from these Bali Age villages own the unique cultures, houses

and life style.

Kintamani Area is consisted of some Villages those are Kedisan Village , Buahan, Abang, Trunyan, Songan, South Batur, Middle Batur, North Batur, Sukawana and Kintamani Village . The total of resident in these area are about 15 thousand who are mostly working as farmer, merchant, or work at industrial tourism.

Putu Restiti, 19 Years old talented girl don’t have a design

background, moreover, she never go to school and

depends on her Mom and her wheel chair to mobile since she was a very little girl.

On the month of Movember 2010, by the work of miracles and Love, she was finally

discovered. With all her talent & willingness to have a better

future, it’s very easy to MOVE her from the lakeside to a

very condusive place, where a lot of more creative people pops up around.
