ConstrucGvist Style
Aleksandr Rodchenko • He was born in Russia in the year 1891 and died in 1956. • Rodchenko studied art at the Kazan School of Art in Odessa from
1910 to 1914. • First major piece of art was shown in an exhibiGon in Moscow. • When in the revoluGonary period of Russia Alek’s created work with
cubist and futurisGc elements. • He was a abstract painter, Sculptor, photographer, and industrial
designer. • He began his abstract work with a compass and ruler. • In 1916 he met Vladimir Tatlin who played a vital role in the
construcGvist work later on in Alek’s life. • He had an interest in physics, Maths and geometry.
ConstrucGvist Analysis In this picture it has a lot of use of the colour yellow and grey. The picture includes a lot of images of planes and spanners which implies about maintainence of them maybe implying that the air-‐force needs your help to keep these planes in working order. With the how the hand is depicted in the image is maybe saying “Give people the power to repair machines”. With the wriGng of the image it uses normal English lebers and a mix of Russian lebers. With both sets of lebers put together they have spelt out revoluGon and psdtuts for the people. The piece is a bit like propaganda. The contrast of the picture show the top half has planes, the middle has hands with spanners showing power and on the bobom is lower working class people.
Sarah Hanson
Sarah Hanson Analysis Sarah Hanson’s work has used real life elements of cranes and male toilet figures. The use of the figures is used of the idea that the cranes control life by holding up life or construcGng buildings. The use of the colour’s is kind of like the colour’s used in the construcGvist art style but the main colour that dominates in the image is red also the other colour that dominates the image is black for the figures of the people on the cranes. The work also seems to have been done on a coffee stained piece of paper which gives the feel that this piece of work was done on the fly this gives the piece of work a more modern feel. This image would be shown in a magazine as way of showing that people weigh in the balance. This work would influence me to composite my work together to make a good piece of work as well as using different images to create a collage
Sarah Hanson’s work is made up of handmade and digital images to create a collage which is inspired by her travels. She is and avid collector of random pictures. She has published some of her work with: GQ, The Times and penguin. Her work can be compared to Richard Hamilton with using images within an image
Sarah Hanson conGnued
• With Sarah Hansons work there looks like there is a horizon line and most of the work sGcks to this line. Also the work is very limited with colours like red, creamy yellow and black and white which focuses the viewer on the image.
• the work is modern or contemporary and is found on sites like debut art but it has a strong 1950’s influence of pop art.
• This style used lots of found images or objects and a typical arGst was Richard Hamilton or Andy Warhol.
