ClausesClauses are groups of words with a subject and a verb.
• An independent clause can stand on its own as a complete sentence.
• A dependent clause cannot stand alone as a complete sentence.
SentencesA simple sentence is an independent clause. It has a subject and a verb.
A compound sentence is made up of two or more simple sentences, or in-
dependent clauses. to make compound sentences we use conjuntions.
Simple Sent ences - Review
A conjunction joins words, groups of words, and whole
sentences. Common conjunctions include and , but , and or .
The conjunction and joins two proper nouns:
Allison and Teresa
Allison and Teresa are in school.
The conjunction or joins two prepositional phrases:
Allison and Teresa are in school.
They want to go to the movies or to the mall.
Milly baked the cookies, but Eric made the lemonade.

a question, a command or an exclamation. Let’s review them.

A sentence begins with capital letter and ends with a puntuation
marks. Some sentence tells things. A telling sentence is called a
statement. A statement ends with a period. (.)
A question --a sentence that asks for information - often starts
with a question word. Some question word starts with- Wh
