Academic Excellence & Achievement

Highlights of January

6th Grade: The 6th grade has been reading the book of Exodus and learning about how God called Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. The story shows that even when we do not feel equipped to do great things, God will give us the support we need. In math, 6th grade has been learning about percents and positive and negative numbers. The students can use their skills when shopping and eating at restaurants!

7th Grade: The7thgraderecentlyfinisheddiscussingthepartsofthecellinScienceandarenowstarting a discussion on how cells divide. Over the next few weeks, they will begin talking about Genetics! 7th grade students also presented dramas in costume from their SCOPE Magazines.

8th Grade: 8th graders are working on making maps with text evidence of Maycomb County from their novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. In 8th grade Science, the students have just started talking about Human Anatomy. The students love talking about the human body because it is something they can relate to!

Calling All Sacred Heart Adults 16 and older:

Many of our volunteers have direct contact with children, whether it be nursery care, volunteering in the school lunchroom, helping SHS teachers, coaching for CYO, driving for field trips, sacrament prep retreats, teaching or aiding in School of Religion, helping Children’s Liturgy as well as many

other ministry groups; it is no doubt that with our young parish you are bound to be around children or on the campus while children are present. Our children’s safety is very important so the better

informed you are, the safer we can make our programs.

The Archdiocese requires all of our volunteers (16 years of age and older) to attend a training session and have a background check completed. This is highly recommended for parents even if

you are not actively volunteering to attend. Learn more about this FREE program at www.virtus.org.

If you have not yet attended a Virtus– Protecting God’s Children Session, please sign up today. You may attend anywhere in the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas.

Next session being hosted at Sacred Heart for Virtus Training will be held on February 3, 2016

Space is limited, registration is required. To see a full list of available locations and dates go to: www.virtus.org click on Registration. Need more information or assistance, please contact Tracie Kersey our Parish Virtus Coordinator at [email protected].
