Prep Newsletter Friday
12th June 2015
Dear Parents and Friends,
Informal Concert
Yesterday a number of our Upper Prep musicians performed in a concert
for their parents and the Lower Prep. Congratulations to the following girls
who delighted us with their beautiful music - they were certainly an
inspiration to our younger pupils:
tf
Beatrice – violin, Remi – trumpet
Karisma – piano, Lucy – piano
Hannah – piano, , Afrah – violin
Elif - flute, Angel and Mia – saxophone
Aryana – guitar, Kalyani - vocal
The ‘Big First Aid Lesson’ with St John Ambulance is a specially
designed 1 hour course for primary aged pupils and today involved our
pupils in Years 3 - 5 who participated in a national event to learn about
how to keep safe and how to deal with and treat minor accidents.

Sports Day was a wonderful event with much personal competition
and teamwork. There was such a lovely atmosphere and it was great to
see that every girl in the Prep School was involved in every event. The
concentration on the children’s faces was a pleasure to see, no doubt
aided by the cheering parents, some who became quite hoarse through
much encouragement! A big thank you to the Sports Department for
their wonderful fluent organisation and to the Year 8’s who helped with
each activity.

Visitors to the Prep School
On Wednesday we were delighted to
welcome the Riddell family back to St
Margaret’s. Mrs Anna Riddell was the Head
of the Infant Department some years ago
and her daughter Rachel was a pupil here.
Ten years ago they relocated to Australia,
therefore it was good to give them a tour
of the Prep School and for them to receive
a warm welcome.
Year 6 PGL Residential began on Wednesday morning for three
days. The girls looked stunning in their turquoise hoodies and there was
certainly much excitement before they left. On Thursday Mrs
Charlesworth, Miss Caher and Miss Kruse reported they were having a
fantastic time, the weather was brilliant and throughout the day they
celebrated Sahana’s birthday! During their time away the girls
participated in a number of challenges and activities, keeping them busy
from the time they woke up to the time they went to bed e.g. abseiling,
fencing, zip wire, team challenges and nature trails. We will share their
PGL experiences in next week’s Newsletter.

Next week:
Mrs Walsgrove has organised for the Living
Eggs to be delivered to the Science Room on
Monday. It will undoubtedly be a memorable
experience for all of the Prep School pupils as
they will all have the opportunity to see the
eggs and to hopefully see them hatch. The
chicks will be with us for a week or two before
they go to enjoy life on a farm.
As part of the whole of St Margaret’s School we enjoy many links with
our Senior School. Starting on Monday for a couple of weeks we will have
two of our senior pupils, Layla and Shayna, doing Work Experience,
helping us in the Lower Prep, supporting our staff and working (under the
supervision of the staff) with the children. This is an invaluable
experience for the older pupils, as both are interested in a career working
with children. No doubt our younger pupils will enjoy the older girls
being around too!
All second hand uniform is kept in the Prep School office. Please liaise
with Mrs Daws if you wish to purchase uniform. We welcome donations
of uniform in good, clean condition.
Year 5 and 6 pupils have been invited to participate in the Senior School Junior Music Concert on Tuesday, starting at 5.30pm in the
Senior School Hall. Please refer to Mr Hope’s recent letter for further
information. If your daughter is participating in the concert please be
aware that Co-Curricular Activities will be running as usual. All girls in
the concert will be taken over to the Senior School Hall by our staff.
Maths Morning on Monday aims to provide a rich learning
environment with a fun, practical approach. All of the girls will be
involved in a variety of activities to consolidate, develop and extend their
understanding of specific Maths skills.
In the Year 3 - 6 Swimming Gala on Monday the girls will be in a
number of races, working collaboratively to win House points. We expect
team spirit and much cheering to encourage everyone in their House.
Please would you ensure that your Upper Prep daughter brings in
everything she needs for the gala. Unfortunately parents are not invited,
as the girls will take up all of the seating when they are not swimming.

Mrs C Aisthorpe
Head of St. Margaret’s Preparatory School
Year 4 Speech and Drama pupils have been working on a short informal
play and will be performing in the Lower Prep assembly on Wednesday.
Unfortunately as the Lower Prep Hall will be filled with children it will not
be possible for parents to see their girls.
Following our successful Mother’s Day/Special Person Assembly in
March we invite all Prep School fathers to come and enjoy a
croissant/pastry and a drink with your daughter at our Father’s Day Breakfast on Thursday 18th June 8.00 - 9.00am in the Upper Prep
Dining Room. If your daughter is attending and is in the Lower Prep she
will be escorted back to her classroom by our staff. If you will be
attending please let Mrs Daws in the Prep Office know by noon on
Monday 15th June, in order that we know how many to cater for.
The Year 6s will be taking part in a Charity Bake Off on Thursday,
to learn about running an enterprise, from the designing and planning
stages through to making, packaging and working out cost and profit to
the eventual selling. School will provide all of the ingredients. The cakes
will be sold to the Upper Prep children at lunchtime on Thursday. If you
would like your daughter to purchase a cake please would you provide
her with a maximum of £1.
We will have details of events and activities for the last two weeks of
term in next week’s Newsletter. As always, please refer to the Newsletter
for the most up to date information.
