Teenage pregnancy rates are defined as the total number of live births, stillbirths and abortions per 1,000 females aged 15-19 years. Comparison of rates must be made cautiously as these data do have limitations (i.e. rates do not include miscarriages, ectopic pregnancies or pharmaceutically induced abortions; prior to 1992 clinic abortion data w as not collected; MOHLTC w arns that 1997 clinic abortion data appear to be low er that expected; 1996-2002 abortion data does not include spontaneous abortions, surgical abortion procedures conducted in private abortion clinics, incomplete therapeutic abortion procedures, medical abortion procedures, and procedures to uninsured clinic clients; MOHLTC w arns about the accuracy of 1991 stillbirth data).
Since a high in 1995, both Ontario and H&PE have seen an overall decline in teenage pregnancy rates. Ontario's rate decreased 36% over the past 6-year period, w hereas H&PE's rate only declined
