The Task

0 The task itself was to create a continuous short film

between 1-2 with three different rules that we have

to include and stick by. The main aim of this task is

to capture footage including two people conversing

with a shot reverse shot linking their conversation.

As well as this we had to incorporate an match on

action shot involving a door being opened and that

person walking across the room.

What Are They

0 The 180 degree rule means that whenever we shot our conversation we had the keep the camera around a 180 degree guideline, so we could not film where we wanted it had to be in a certain zone.

0 A shot reverse shot involves filming somebody speaking/looking at something and then the shot cuts to whoever or whatever he is looking at and shows us their view, in a way it is a back and forth shot showing what somebody is looking at/who they are talking to.

0 A match on action shot is a shot that shows an action about to occur and then cutting to this action actually happen, sometimes from a different angle. We had to use this rule however incorporating a door, our shot involved our actor walking up to a door, putting his hand on the handle and then cutting to behind the door and it shows the audience the actor actually coming through the door.

Our Ideas

We wanted to do something more creative than usual, however we could not think of anything to do with the match on action shot, so we stuck with the basic door opening shot. We pitched a few ideas of having a basic conversation in different scenarios and involving different amounts of people. We attempted to do a simple office conversation however for how long we wanted their was too much dialogue and editing involved and we were still not happy with the final piece. However the office idea benefited in a way that from where we were filming it was impossible to break the 180 degree due to objects in the way.

How we used each shot

0The 180 degree rule was very simple to use as the setting already created a border for us to go along.

0The match on action shot, we stuck with the basic opening a door scene as we could not think of anything else that fitted in with our scenario however after we finished we then thought of better ideas which we might incorporate on our next piece.

0The shot reverse shot was used within our conversing as it also showed the height difference of height which we wanted to include as it showed the camera angle being shot within the eye of the other peer.

Our setting

0We ended up shooting in the school toilets as it is very uncommon however can be portrayed as a casual conversation area, it can be viewed as peculiar and strange to talk to somebody else in the toilets. The problems with this setting was the water pipe noises as well as the echo in the room, if we shot this again we would include Foley to produce a clearer dialogue.
