Key Questions

1. In what ways does this media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

2. Who are the audience and how did you attract/address them?

3. What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing your student magazine?

Key Question 1• In what ways does this media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

I have used a masthead and

positioned it at the top of my page

I have positioned my cover lines to the right side of my model, this layout can be seen in this cover of Self but not on this

cover of Vogue as I challenged the conventions by positioning

my model off centre.

My model’s positioning challenges conventions as not only is he off centre,

he is not directly addressing the audience however is works as it links to

the student’s focus on his work.

My model’s face is positioned on a hot spot to draw the reader’s eye,

Beyonce’s body is on this spot in Self whereas it is on the text in Vogue. All 3 covers have utilised this area, just

in different ways.

Key Question 1

Title of the page positioned in the primary optical area

Listings going down the left hand side as to not distract

from focus of the image.

My contents page challenges conventions as most contents pages have

plain backgrounds with some images relating to page listings however I

decided that the positioning of the models in my

photograph meant that the image could fill the pager

without distracting from the listing.

Key Question 2• Who are the audience and how did you attract/address them?

The audience of my magazine is AS students and I attracted them by making my magazine a “settling in special” aimed directly at them while they are settling into

college. I also used cover lines that appealed to them by offering what they want to help them settle in, for example an “AS survival guide” I also used students as

models, this use of relatable figures means that the reader can identify with them as they are similar.

Key Question 3• What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing your student magazine?

I have gained a greater understanding of how to use photoshop as I have now learnt how to import fonts from dafont.com into photoshop and select the text, delete the background and change the colour.
