PRE-LAB QUIZZES You will have weekly 2-point pre-lab quizzes. They will be given during the beginning of lab and are scheduled for every regular lab (refer to syllabus). The goal of these quizzes is to assess your preparation for the upcoming lab, as you are expected to read the lab material and be familiar with general concepts before coming to lab. Questions will address prerequisite knowledge, important vocabulary, major concepts, and methodologies (for experiment or activity-based labs). Example pre-lab question for Exercise 6: Evolution and Classification. Refer to the cladogram. Please circle a node -and- a branch. Which two species are most closely related? Cladogram Given the extensive vocabulary often contained in the lab manual, relevant pre-lab vocabulary will be posted on HuskyCT. Pre-lab quizzes will amount to 24 points of the possible 746 points for this course. This constitutes ~3% of your final grade. Your performance on pre-lab quizzes will thus affect whether or not you move a half grade (e.g. BB+ or BB-), but not a full letter grade (e.g. BA or BC). More importantly, preparation for lab will likely affect how you do on other graded work as well. You’ll finish labs quicker and learn the material better. It would be wise to take them seriously! TAs will discuss pre-labs in further detail during individual lab sections.

PRE-LAB QUIZZES

You will have weekly 2-point pre-lab quizzes. They will be given during the beginning of lab

and are scheduled for every regular lab (refer to syllabus).

The goal of these quizzes is to assess your preparation for the upcoming lab, as you are expected

to read the lab material and be familiar with general concepts before coming to lab. Questions

will address prerequisite knowledge, important vocabulary, major concepts, and methodologies

(for experiment or activity-based labs).

Example pre-lab question for Exercise 6: Evolution and Classification.

Refer to the cladogram.

Please circle a node -and- a branch.

Which two species are most closely related?

Cladogram

Given the extensive vocabulary often contained in the lab manual, relevant pre-lab vocabulary

will be posted on HuskyCT.

Pre-lab quizzes will amount to 24 points of the possible 746 points for this course. This

constitutes ~3% of your final grade. Your performance on pre-lab quizzes will thus affect

whether or not you move a half grade (e.g. B→B+ or B→B-), but not a full letter grade (e.g.

B→A or B→C). More importantly, preparation for lab will likely affect how you do on other

graded work as well. You’ll finish labs quicker and learn the material better. It would be wise to

take them seriously!

TAs will discuss pre-labs in further detail during individual lab sections.
