Prejudice- to pre-judge something or someone without any real evidence to base that judgement on.Discrimination- when prejudiced ideas are put into actionTolerance- to accept that people have different beliefs and opinions than your own.Justice- that everyone has the same rights and deserves the same treatmentStereotyping- an over-simplified idea of a person or group of peopleCommunity- a collection of people who live and work together so that everyone benefits.Positive discrimination- is the act of providing special opportunities for minority groups who may suffer discrimination.

Causes of Prejudice

•Family/ upbringing: If your parents are racist, you will become racist

•Media: If the media teaches you that a particular race is “evil”, people will generate hatred.

•Friends: Your friends opinions and attitudes affect your own opinions.

•Ignorance: Lack of knowledge causes miscalculation

•Scapegoating: Blaming a particular group of people for a disaster of sort.

Effects of Prejudice•Depression: Many people that suffer from prejudice struggle to cope with their feelings

•Violence: Many act violently against those that are prejudice towards them.

•Hate: Hate for a particular group can generate counter-hate.

•Loneliness: A feeling of abandonment and isolation can happen if effected too much

•Determination: Many feel energised by this discrimination and fight to change things that happen in their society.

Types of prejudiceAgeism-discrimination because of their age

Sexism-discrimination because of gender

Disability-discrimination against somebody because they have a disability

Racism-discrimination because of race

Homophobia-discrimination from sexuality

Islamophobia-discrimination of muslims

Positive discrimination- When someone is positively affected due to their social group
