1.01.01.01.0 Preamble:Preamble:Preamble:Preamble:

Annually 2,70,000–3,60,000 tones (600–800 million pounds) of castor oil are produced for a

variety of uses.

Castor oil and its derivatives are used in the manufacturing of soaps, lubricants, hydraulic

and brake fluids, paints, dyes, coatings, inks, cold resistant plastics, waxes and polishes

, nylon, pharmaceuticals and perfumes

In the food industry, castor oil (food grade) is used in food additives, flavorings, candy

(e.g., polyglycerol polyricinoleate or PGPR in chocolate as a mold inhibitor, and in packaging.

Polyoxyethylated castor oil is also used in the food industries.

In India, Pakistan and Nepal food grains are preserved by the application of castor oil. It stops

rice, wheat, and pulses from rotting. For example, the legume pigeon pea is commonly

available coated in oil for extended storage.

Castor oil, or a castor oil derivative such as Kolliphor EL (polyethoxylated castor oil, a

nonionic surfactant), is added to many modern drugs,

Castor oil is used as bio-based polyol in the polyurethane industry. The average functionality

(number of hydroxyl groups per triglyceride molecule) of castor oil is 2.7, so it is widely used

as rigid polyol and coating

Castor oil can be broken down into other chemical compounds that have numerous

applications, Transesterification followed by steam cracking gives undecylenic acid, a

precursor to specialized polymer nylon 11, andheptanal, a component in fragrances

Breakdown of castor oil in strong base gives 2-octanol, both a fragrance component and a

specialized solvent, and the dicarboxylic acid sebacic acid. Hydrogenation of castor oil

saturates the alkenes, giving a waxy lubricant.

The production of lithium grease consumes a significant amount of castor

oil. Hydrogenation and saponification of castor oil yields 12-hydroxystearic acid which is then

reacted with lithium hydroxide or lithium carbonate to give high performance lubricant

grease.

Since it has a relatively high dielectric constant (4.7), highly refined and dried castor oil is

sometimes used as a dielectric fluid within high performance high voltage capacitors.

The shroff oil mfg. Co.Pvt. Ltd established in year 2005. At, Village Luna Taluka padara,

District Vadodara by Company directors. Having capacity of manufacturing Castor Oil

Commercial and Hydrogenated having production 250 MT/Month. 375 MT/Month castor cake

generates as by product. Management has invested nearly 1.5 Cr ` in this project.

Management has stopped production of Hydrogenated Castor Oil. Now company has interest

in expand project to produce 1040 MT Castor Oil Commercial per month or Castor Oil

FSG(Bleached)

Company has plan to carry out expansion in existing premises only. There will be no new land

use or change in land use. Company will require minor changes in existing plant and storage

facility, it will cost nearly 50 laks `.

Presently industry consume 2.8 Kl/day water, after expansion it will consume 4.8 Kl/day

By practicing Cleaner production, reduce, reuse and recycle concept company has reduced

waste water generation. Originally industry was generating 1.7Kl/d waste water, Now Industry

generate less than 0.5 Kl/Day and with implementing same concept company will control it

waste water generation below 0.55Kl/Day.

Company presently consume 2.5 MT/Day of wood and agro- waste as fuel after expansion it

will consume 7.5 MT/day.

Looking to company to performance and natural resource consumptions, water is less than

4.5 KL/Day and fuel consumption 7.5 MT/ Day, it is categorized as small project and referred

as Category B(2) project

The raw material for the castor oil is castor seed. It is first clean by removing external

impurities like dirt, dust bits & leaves etc.

Seed Crushing Seed Crushing Seed Crushing Seed Crushing

Cleaned seeds are mechanically conveyed to pair of expellers. In expeller seed subject to

heavy mechanical force applied on them by screw to squeeze the oil. The oil and cake a

convey separately. Cake is by product and sell in market, Castor oil lead for refining to remove,

odor, & color.

Pressurized steam purged directly into oil from bottom to separate the gum in oil up to 1200C

to after completion of gum removal process indirect steam pass through oil to remove

condensate water in oil . After process over oil filtered by gravitational filter. Separated gum

use for cake making

BleachingBleachingBleachingBleaching

Incoming oil is heated to bleaching temperature, bleaching earth added. After stirring slurry

In industry noise pollution generates due to various activity like, transportation and loading

unloading of material.

Following mitigation measures taken to prevent noise pollution;

Preventive measures:

Noise generated by equipment. This noise is intermittent and does not cause much adverse impact.

Proper maintenance of all equipment/ machines will be carried out which help in reducing noise during operations.

Plantation will be taken up along the internal roads and periphery. The plantation minimizes propagation of noise and also arrests dust.

PPE like ear plug , hand gloves, helmet etc. provided to workers

Odor Management Odor Management Odor Management Odor Management

The following steps will be taken for odor control.

Raw material feeding will be carried out pumps

All reaction will be carried out in closed vessel system.

Roof top ventilation provided in process area.

Regular inspection carried out for check leakages,
