M cKenney’s upgraded the air handlers feeding the offices of a major broadcasting campus in Atlanta, Georgia. THE CHALLENGE The customer needed to double its HVAC capacity to accommodate a change in floor- plan from existing office space to a broadcast- ing studio. There was limited shut down time and the project required expert management of logistics and scheduling during demolition of existing air handling units (AHUs) and installation of replacement systems. THE SOLUTION McKenney’s collaborated extensively with its field personnel, the customer’s staff and the project engineer to preplan and schedule the many moving parts and people for the job. The team shut down each of the four existing AHUs in the mechanical room one at a time and removed each unit in pieces while the other AHUs remained connected. Then, a new custom-fabricated AHU was installed piece-by-piece and brought online. THE RESULTS Due to McKenney’s meticulous scheduling and planning—along with a staged AHU installation approach—the HVAC update was completed on time and under budget for the broadcasting and studio space.
