Scripture readings for the 4th Sunday after Pentecost

June 12, 2016, are:

2 Samuel 11:26--12:10, 13-15

King David seduced his neighbor Bathsheba and was responsible for the death of her husband,

Uriah. God sends the prophet Nathan to confront the king. Nathan tells the king a parable and opens

David’s eyes to see his own guilt.

Galatians 2:15-21

Paul preaches on the power of God’s grace to make us faithful. We are made right with God

through Jesus Christ alone, through no work of our own. As a result, Christ’s life has become our

whole identity.

Luke 7:36--8:3

Through a dramatic encounter of rich and poor, righteous and sinner,

Jesus teaches the relationship between receiving mercy and responding with a lavish outpouring of

love. Jesus also provokes his host by claiming authority to forgive sins.

May was a busy month for the youth at Emmanuel. There were

many fun events, as well as youth led service.

The confirmation class had

a progressive breakfast at two different homes.

They participated in team building/trust exercises,

lessons with Pastor, and planning their sermon for

the youth led service.

Preschool finished for the school year, so it was a perfect time for the young Mighty Youth to spend the morning together.

They created playdough masterpieces and had fun on

the playground.

The Luth Youth enjoyed learning about the Good

Samaritan, through object lessons and performing

skits. And you can’t get the Luth Youth together without playing games, especially

\when there are giant inflatable balls involved.

All these kids joined together on Youth Sunday, and successfully

led the congregation in song and service. There were kids

reading each and every part of the service! The confirmation

class gave a fun and meaningful sermon, while the

Luth Youth read lessons, prayers, and benediction.

We are accepting donations of your Car, Pickup, or ATV to raise funds so our Emmanuel Preschool kids can experience a bright educational beginning in a loving Christian environment! your driveway, or an old truck that is taking

up valuable “shop” space, or an ATV that is in the way of

the new planter box you want to build,

ANY vehicle you wish to donate all or part of its sale,

let us sell it for you!

Help provide a safe fun place for our kids to learn, play, and grow. Please contact Steve Fountain, Craig Greenwalt, Pastor Daugs, or the Church Office (882.3915).

PASTOR’S DISCRETIONARY FUND

Pastor’s Discretionary Fund is used by the Pastor to assist individuals and families that are in need. Most often it is used to assist people who

stop by the church office and request assistance for basic needs. This is a very “hands on” ministry through our Pastor.

The Pastor’s Discretionary Fund is in need of your financial support. Could your support for the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund be above and

beyond your usual gracious giving? If you are able to, please give a separate offering ear marked for the

Pastor’s Discretionary Fund. Thanks for your support to this important ministry.

DAVE ISAKSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The Dave Isakson Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by Gretchen Isakson and her family in 2013. The purpose of this scholarship

fund is to champion sending children to Camp Lutherhaven.

Lutherhaven offers many Christian based camping opportunities for children, grades one through high school.

If you would like to contribute to this great cause, as a memorial… a gift… in celebration of… please note on your offering,

“Dave Isakson Memorial Scholarship Fund.” You can put your contribution in the offering plate on Sunday morning, drop it by the

Church Office, or mail it to: Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 1036 West A Street, Moscow, ID 83843.

Thank you for helping our youth make special relationships, have exciting experiences and make lasting memories!

Great Possibilities 'Happily for us, the fundamental Christian message concerns not what we ought to do but what God has done and what God is willing to do.

In fellowship with him and with others who are likewise trying to be like him, we can be lifted up above our native possibilities.'

- Hugh Martin

What would

like to do?

Here’s an idea! Make a positive impact on the Sunday experience of all who enter here!

In Scripture, many great encounters between people and God happen around food. Abraham and Sarah prepare a meal for three guests who

turn out to be angels (Genesis 18). God instructs the Hebrew slaves to eat a special meal together before their delivery from Egypt (Exodus 12);

every year since, Jews have celebrated the Passover feast. Elijah is strengthened with food served by an angel (1 Kings 19).

Jesus shares meals not only with religious leaders but with “sinners” (e.g., Matthew 9). Jesus’ Last Supper with his disciples before his death

has become one of the church’s sacraments and a “foretaste” of the heavenly banquet to come.

When Christian families eat together, it’s a holy time in God’s presence, just as when the church shares Holy Communion —

a true fellowship dinner!

Each Emmanuel family helps out with Sunday Morning Fellowship Privileges on a rotating basis once every few months. A letter with the schedule and instructions is sent to each family as well as a

reminder postcard sent a few days before your scheduled Sunday. If you have not been asked to serve yet, or if you had previously

asked to be removed from the rotation but would like to again serve, please let us know.
