AUG 13 The holiday begins in Switzerland’s largest city, Zürich. The cosmopolitan city brims with art and culture. Zürich is home to the Dada art movement, and traces of Dadaism are still sprinkled throughout the city. It’s also a major shopping destination. Meet and mingle with fellow travelers during the first group dinner at a centrally located 4-star hotel (Hotel - NH Zürich or similar).

AUG 14 The day kicks off with a morning sightseeing tour of Zürich and a luxury bus tour to the world-renowned Alpine resort, St. Moritz. Along the way, take a break in the principality of Liechtenstein (the fourth smallest country in Europe) where you can buy lunch before continuing the journey to a luxury hotel and spa in St. Moritz, which hosted two Winter Olympics and serves as a backdrop in James Bond films The Spy Who Loved Me and A View to A Kill. Overnight at Hotel - Kempinski Grand Hotel des Bains or similar.

AUG 15 Take a morning tour of St. Moritz then the afternoon belongs to you. Your stay includes access to the hotel spa. Guests can purchase a variety of pampering treatments. Spa services book up early so make reservations before you leave home. Sterling Silver Tours will assist in making reservations for the St. Moritz spa.

AUG 16 Bid farewell to St. Moritz and head to charming Zermatt in style and comfort aboard the Glacier Express. The day-long experience features a breathtaking panorama of the Swiss Alps and tour commentary. (Optional First Class upgrades are available.) In the evening we’ll arrive in Zermatt, the quaint village at the foot of the Matterhorn. Relive adventures at a group dinner, which is included. Overnight at Hotel - Alpen Resort Hotel or similar.

AUG 17 Step back in time as you stroll the cobbled streets and walk along the promenade. Cars are not allowed in this village, which feels like another world. (A small fleet of tiny electric buses is available.) Arrangements can be made for an optional trip to the majestic Matterhorn.

AUG 18 Depart Zermatt and travel to bustling Geneva. Spend an afternoon on a gorgeous Lake Geneva cruise followed by a special dinner with PBS Travel Guru, Burt Wolf. Mr. Wolf is the host of nine internationally syndicated television series that deal with cultural history, travel and gastronomy, including the PBS program Travels & Traditions. Enjoy an evening of Switzerland through the lens of this travel master. Geneva is Switzerland’s second most populous city and rich with history, culture and 82 heritage sites. Overnight at Hotel - NH Geneva or similar.

AUG 19 During a delicious day trip from Geneva to Gruyère—yes, like the cheese—visit factories to make chocolate in a workshop and watch a cheese-making demonstration. Everyone will leave with extra chocolate and cheese. Afterward, we’ll return to Geneva.

AUG 20 Depart for home.

PRE-TRIP EXTENSION: SOUND OF MUSIC SAMPLERAUG. 11 - 13 Is the beloved film The Sound of Music one of your favorite things? Start your vacation early with a three-day jaunt in Salzburg, Austria. Visit the convent where the real Maria von Trapp lived. Stroll the grounds where Captain von Trapp found his children playing without permission. (You, however, will not be chided for having fun.) If you are a true fan of this treasured classic, come with us to explore the story inside The Sound of Music. After a day of touring, we will relax with a sumptuous Sachertorte at a historic Austrian hotel. We then depart as a group for Zürich. Our 2-night stay includes all breakfasts, 4-star central accommodations, transportation to Zürich, welcome dinner, and what we’re sure will be a rather awesome sing-a-long through the Austrian Alps.
