Thesefivestepsarenecessaryforasuccessfulupgrade.Pleasepaycloseattentionanddo

notskipanysteps.

1. SaveandBackupYourCurrentShopThisstepconsistsofbackingupyourdatabaseandyourfiles.Thisstepisnotavoidablefor

successandshouldnevereverbeignoredorskipped.Donotproceedtosteptwowithout

completingthisstep.

2. GettingReadyfortheNewVersionThisstepconsistsofpreparingthefilesthatyouwillneedtocopyintothenewversionof

PrestaShop.

3. StartingtheUpdateThisstepconsistsofstartingtheupgradescriptwhichwillupgradeyourdatabase.

4. QAandTestingThisstepconsistsofdoingvariouscheckstomakesurethatthestorehasbeenproperlyupdated

tothelatestversion.

5. GoingLivewiththeNewWebsiteThisstepwillaccompanyyouingoinglivewiththelatestupdate.

Donewell,thewholeupdateprocessdescribedwithinthesepagesshouldnottakemore

thanhalfanhour.Donottrytoskipastepinordertobedonewithitfaster,astheyall

arecrucial.

Step1–SaveandBackupYourCurrentStore

A.BackingUpYourFiles

YoumustsaveallofthefilesrelatedtoyourPrestaShopstore.

Therearetwomainwaysofbackingupyourfiles:

• Askyourhostingcompanytobackupyourfiles.

Makingsurethatthisbackupisfullyfunctional,recent,andmoreimportantlythatitreflectsthe

contentofyourcurrentstore.

• CopyallofyourFTPfilesfromyourservertoyourlocalcomputer.

ThismethodisonlypossibleifyourhostingproviderhasprovidedyouwithanFTPaccesstoyour

server.Createa“Backup”folderonyourcomputer,then,usinganFTPclient(suchasFileZilla),

selectallthePrestaShopfilesandfoldersonyourserver(usetheCtrl-Acommand)andcopy

themtoyour“Backup”folder.

Caution:Notbackingupyourstoreconstitutesaveryimportantriskifyou

encounteranydifficultieswiththeupgrade.Thereisariskofdataloss.

Donoteverskipthisstep.Donotproceedtostep2unlessyouareabsolutelycertainthatyourbackupsarecompleted,successful,andfullyfunctional.

B.DeactivatingYourStore

Gotoyourstore’sback-office,clickonthe“Preference”tab,thenselect“No”forthe“EnableShop”

option.

Inthe“MaintenanceIP”field,locatedjustbelowthe“EnableShop”one,enteryourownIPaddress,so

thatyoucankeeponusingyourstoreduringtheupdate.Thiswillallowyoutotestthestore,whilestillmakingsurevisitorscannotaccessthewebsite.

InordertofindoutyourIPaddress,visitthispage:http://www.myip.dk/

Warning:disablingyourstoreisveryimportant.

Bydoingso,youmakesurethatthereisnoactivityonyourstorewhileyouare

updatingit.Therefore,ifyoueverhavetoreverttheupdateusingabackup,youwon’thave

lostanyunfinishedcartsororders.

Inthesection“ExportaLanguage”selectthelanguagetowhichyouhavemadeanymodifications,then

selectyourcurrenttheme,andclick“Export”.

Savethedownloadedfileintoabackupfolderofyourchoice,onyourlocalcomputer…

Step2–GettingReadyfortheNewVersion

A.DownloadingandUnzippingoftheLatestPrestaShopVersion

Visithttp://www.prestashop.comanddownloadthelatestversionofPrestaShop(clickthe“Download”buttonon

thehomepage).

Younowshouldhaveafile:prestashop_1.x.x.zip(where“x”representstheversionnumber).

Unzipthefiletoyourcomputer.Ifyoudonotyethaveanunzippingtool,youcandownloadafreeonehere:

http://www.7-zip.org/.

Onceunzipped,openthe“prestashop”folderthatitcontained.

Inthat“prestashop”folder,selectthe“admin”folderandrenameittosomethinguniquetoyou(forinstance,

“admin436”.Youronlinestorecurrentlyalsohasaunique“admin”folder,fromitsoriginalinstallation;youcan

usethatuniquenameifyouwish.Ifyoudonotknowtheuniquenameofyouronlinestore’s“admin”folder,use

whichevernameyouwant.

B.CopythefilesbackedupduringStep1tothe“prestashop”folder

Someofthefoldersthatyouhavebackedupwillneedtobecopiedtoyour«prestashop»folder.

Thefollowingfoldersmustbecopiedfromyourbackuptowardstherecentlyunzipped“prestashop”folder:

□“mails”folderhasallthemailsthatyouhavemodified.

Ifyouhavenevermadeanymodificationthere,donotworryaboutthisfolder.

□“img”foldercontainsyourlogoandallthepicturesofyourstore(categories,products…)

□“modules”folder,onlycopythemodulesthatyouhaveadded.

Caution:Youwillbecopyingfilesfromyour“Backup”directorytothe

“prestashop”directory.Answer«Yes»whenthesystemasksyoutoreplace

theexistingfiles.

□“themes/yourtheme”folder,onlycopyyourcurrenttheme.IfyouusethedefaultthemefromPrestaShop,do

notcopyit,youmustusetheonefromthenewversion.

□“download”and“upload”folders,whichcontainallthedownloadableproducts,theattachedfilesandthe

customizableproducts .Ifyoudonouseanyofthesefunctionalities,donotcopythesefolders.

□“classes”folder:incaseyouhaveaddedcustomizedclassestothisfolder,copythemtothenew“classes”

folder.Thenopeneachandeveryoneofthem,andrenametheirname,addingthe“Core”suffix.Forintance,

“MyClasse”becomes“MyClasseCore”.

OnlychangethenameinthePHPclasswithinfile, notthenameofthefileitself.

□“config”folders,onlycopythesettings.inc.phpfile,thenmodifythefollowinglines:

-Thelinethatcontains“PS_BASE_URI”mustcontainthenameofthesubfolderwhereyouaregoingtodoyour

update.Forinstance,“/prestashop/”insteadof“/”,orofthenameofcurrentfolderforyourcurrentstore.

-Ifyoumodifiedyourdatabasecredentials(youshouldnothavehadtodothatnormally),updateallthelines

thatcontain“DB_NAME”,“DB_USER”et“DB_PASSWD”too.

C.Movingthefolder«prestashop»toyourFTPserver.

The“prestashop” folder that youhave unzipped, nowcontainsall themodifications fromyour “Backup”

folder(andtherefore,fromyourcurrentlylivestore).Thisnextstepwillhaveyouuploadthatfolderonyour

FTPserver.

Ifyourenamedthe“prestashop”folder,donotforgettoupdatetheconfig/settings.inc.phpfileaccordingly,

asexplainedinstep2-B.

UsingyourFTPclient,uploadthe“prestashop”foldertoyourserver.

Caution:Ifthefolderofyourstoreisalreadynamed«prestashop»,renamethe

folder«prestashop»onyourharddrivebeforesendingitontoyourFTP

server.

databaseandapplicationfiles.Iassumeallresponsibilityforanydatalossordamagerelatedtothis

upgrade.”Ifyoudidnotdotherequiredback-upsorifyoudidnothaveachancetoverifythedata’s

integrityandthatthesebackupsarefunctionalandrecent,pleasegobacktostep1ofthisguide.

B.Verificationofallparametersbeforetheupdate

The parameters of your hostingprovider should show on the screen, as well as more details about the

operationabouttobelaunched.

• max_execution_timeshowsthemaximumtimeinsecondsauthorizedbyyourhostingproviderfor

the update to take place. If this number is smaller than the estimated time of installation, we

recommendthatyounotifyyourhostingprovidersothathecanincreasethislimit.

• memory_limit is the maximum memory that you’re hosting provider will set aside for you to

completetheupgrade.Ifthisvalueissmallerthan“32M”,youshouldcontactyourhostingcompany

torequestanincreaseofthisvalue.

Ifanyofthesetwoparametersdoesnotmeettherequirements,youaretakingtheriskofreceivinganerror

messageorablankpageafterclickingthe“Next”.

Otherwise,clickthe“Next”buttonatthebottomofthepage.

Ifsufficientrightsareassignedtoyourfilesandfolders,thefollowingpagewillshow:

Ifnot,makesurethatthefoldersareproperlyconfigured:changetheirpermissionsofthefoldersinredonyour

FTPserver(CHMOD777or775,dependingonyourhostingprovider)thenclickthe“Refreshthesesettings”

button.

InordertoperformaCHMOD,usingyourFTPclient,findthefoldersthathavethewrongpermissionsettings,

right-clickoneachoftheminordertodisplaytheirproperties(orevenbetter,theiraccessrights),andtickthe

boxesthatarenotyetticked,untilarefreshofthe“SystemandPermissions”pagegivesyouonlygreenfolder.

Onceyou’redone,click“Next”atthebottomofthepage,theupdatewillstartandprobablylastafewminutes.

Caution:Youcancheckiftheupdatehasstartedintheupperrightpartofthe

screen,thankstotheprogressbar.Donotleavethepage;waitfortheupdate

tobecompleted.

C.Finishingtheupdate

Oncetheupdateisfinished,youshouldseethefollowingscreen:

OnyourFTPserver,insidethe“prestashop”folder,youshoulddelete:

• The“install”folder(thissubfoldercontainstheupdatetools)

• TheREADMEfiles(containinformationabouttheinstallation)

• TheCHANGELOGfile(containsinformationaboutthelatestchangesinPrestaShop)

You can now access your store’s front-office at http://www.myshop.com/prestashop (change the URL

accordingly).

B.VerificationofthemainDomainNameandregenerationofyour.htaccess

Youshouldverifythatthedomainnameassignedinthedatabaseisindeedtheonethatyouareworking

with.Todoso,visitthe“Preferences”tab,thenthe“SEO&URLs”sub-tab.

Youmustcheckthefollowinginformation:

• “PSdirectory”:thisfoldershouldbetheonethatyouhavetransferredontoyourFTPserver;inthis

tutorial,itwouldbe“/prestashop/”

• “DomainName”:Thisshouldbethedomainnametowhichyouarecurrentlyconnected.Otherwise,
