Pre-sales of Tickets for High Speed Rail (Hong Kong Section) will Commence on 10 September

With the commissioning of passenger service on the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High Speed Rail (Hong Kong Section) on 23 September 2018, the MTR Corporation will start the pre-sales of High Speed Rail tickets on 10 September 2018 including the short haul journeys to and from the Hong Kong West Kowloon Station and the six Mainland stations Futian, Shenzhenbei, Guangmingcheng, Humen, Qingsheng and Guangzhounan, as well as medium to long haul journeys connecting to 38 destinations. “From the Hong Kong West Kowloon Station Open Days held earlier, we saw the enthusiasm and anticipation of residents and passengers towards the opening of the High Speed Rail (Hong Kong Section). The launch of the ticketing system of the High Speed Rail (Hong Kong Section) and the start of ticket pre-sales on 10 September 2018 mark another milestone towards the service commissioning of High Speed Rail,” said Mr Lincoln Leong, Chief Executive Officer of MTR Corporation. “I have to express my gratitude to relevant Government departments and all members of the Corporation for demonstrating their team spirit in striving for the smooth service commissioning of the High Speed Rail. I would also like to thank the Mainland railway authorities, including China Railway, China Railway Guangzhou Group Company Limited and other Mainland railway groups for their support and facilitation of the pre-sales arrangements for High Speed Rail tickets. In the future, we will maintain close cooperation with them to provide excellent High Speed Rail services for passengers,” he added. Starting from 10 September, the MTR Corporation and the Mainland railway operator will launch the pre-sales of tickets for the High Speed Rail (Hong Kong Section) service. Passengers can purchase tickets through the ticketing counters and ticket machines at the Hong Kong West Kowloon Station, or through online ticketing and tele-ticketing systems. To adhere with the Real Name Policy for the High Speed Rail tickets, passengers have to show the original copy of valid identification documents for each ticket purchased at the station, while information relating to valid identification documents has to be provided when using the other ticketing channels. “We expect that the ticket pre-sales arrangement prior to the service commissioning will be warmly received. In view of the huge demand, after taken into consideration relevant factors including system capacity, and the convenience to passengers, the Corporation has made special arrangements so that the ticket pre-sales can proceed in an orderly manner to safeguard the smooth operation of the ticketing system during the initial phase of service,” said Mr Adi Lau, Operations Director of MTR Corporation.

The ticket pre-sales will adopt the following special arrangements: 1. Tickets for the first ten days of service (23 September to 2 October 2018) will be available

on the first day of pre-sales. 2. Pre-sales will start at 8am at the ticketing counters and ticket machines at Hong Kong

West Kowloon Station, and at 12pm for the online and tele-ticketing systems on the first day of pre-sales.

3. Each person can purchase not more than eight tickets each time through different ticketing channels.

4. A person purchasing tickets at the station has to buy at least one ticket for himself/herself with valid identification document.

5. Original copy of each passenger’s valid identification document has to be presented for each ticket to be purchased at the station.

As there may be a large number of people buying tickets on the first day, passengers are recommended to avoid the rush during the initial period of pre-sales unless there is an urgent need for travel. For the operating hours and ticketing arrangements for all ticketing channels after the service commissioning of the High Speed Rail (Hong Kong Section) on 23 September 2018, please refer to Appendix 1 for details. High Speed Rail service Hong Kong West Kowloon Station will connect to the over 25,000 km National High-speed Rail network and serve 44 destinations including the 6 short haul stations Futian, Shenzhenbei, Guangmingcheng, Humen, Qingsheng and Guangzhounan on the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong High Speed Rail route, and the 38 medium to long haul destinations including Beijing, Shanghai, Kunming, Guilin, Guiyang, Shijiazhuang, Zhengzhou, Wuhan, Changsha, Hangzhou, Nanchang, Fuzhou, Xiamen and Shantou. In the initial phase of High Speed Rail service, the train service will generally be scheduled according to three kinds of train pattern for weekdays, weekends and peak periods. There will be 70, 82 and 114 pairs of short haul trains respectively, and the medium to long haul services will remain at 13 train pairs each day. The actual train schedule will be devised according to operating circumstances. Train service for the first day of service: On the first day of High Speed Rail service (23 September 2018), there will be 95 train pairs in total (82 short haul train pairs, and 13 medium to long haul train pairs). The first northbound train will depart at 7am on that day from Hong Kong West Kowloon Station to Shenzhenbei. A total of 20 northbound and southbound ‘first trains’ will reach different destinations on that day. The detailed train service schedule for the initial phase of High Speed Rail service is listed in Appendix 2. Train fares As the High Speed Rail (Hong Kong Section) will connect to the National High-speed Rail network, the setting of train fares has referenced the existing national practices. The train fares are set in Renminbi and there is a mechanism to convert the fares to Hong Kong Dollars on a monthly basis according to the actual currency rate to provide convenience to passengers for ticket purchase using Hong Kong Dollars. Tickets for second class, first class, premium class and business class are available, with premium and business classes only available on some Mainland trains. Child tickets are also available.

Published Fare and Implemented Fare: According to the operating model of the national High Speed Rail, railway operators will set the Published Fare and Implemented Fare. While the Published Fare is the highest allowed fare for each train trip, the Implemented Fare is adjusted by Mainland High Speed Rail operating units taking into account passenger volume and market considerations. Passengers will pay according to the Implemented Fare when they purchase tickets. The Implemented Fares of some of the short haul train schedules for some non-second class seats will also be reduced below the Published Fares in the initial service phase of the High Speed Rail (Hong Kong Section). Details of the Published Fare and Implemented Fare are listed in Appendix 3 and will be uploaded to the website of the High Speed Rail (Hong Kong Section). Ms Jeny Yeung, Commercial Director of MTR Corporation said, “The Corporation has been discussing with Mainland railway operating units on the Implemented Fare of the High Speed Rail (Hong Kong Section). Based on market and business operating principles, we have lowered the short-haul train fares for certain classes and some train trips to increase the overall patronage while benefiting passengers.” Passenger Information To address issues of passenger concern, the MTR Corporation will prepare a user guide to be distributed in Hong Kong West Kowloon Station, all MTR stations, and will be uploaded onto the website and mobile app. Luggage: The luggage arrangements for the High Speed Rail (Hong Kong Section) have to take comfort of the whole train compartment into consideration and be consistent with those applicable to the high speed rail network in the Mainland. While the maximum total dimensions per piece should not exceed 130 cm, each adult passenger should not carry more than 20 kg of luggage and each child passenger should not carry more than 10 kg of luggage. There are no constraints on the number of pieces of luggage. Dimension tapes and scales will be available in Hong Kong West Kowloon Station for passengers to measure their luggage, and there will be service providers to provide parcel consignment, delivery service and storage service for passengers in need. Same as other cross-boundary public transport, passengers should not carry dangerous or prohibited items to the station or on board the trains.
