Thirteen researches were presented and top three best paper were recognized as follows:

1st Place – Promotion of Environment Sustainable Ways of Freshwater Resources Management in Nueva Vizcaya by R. delos Trinos of NVSU.

2nd Place – Marine Fisheries Stock Assessment in Batanes Waters (2nd

Phase) by E. Ame, M. Aragon and V. Villarao of BFAR R02.

3rd Place – Growth and Reproduction of Aramang by Prof. Romeo Culasing of Cagayan State University – Aparri.

BFAR OFFICIALS MEET THE PRESS.Officials of the bureau guested at PIA’s Tipon – Tipan, a live press conference aired over DWPE and RBC Cable and delayed broadcast by other radio stations in the city. Issues on Fish Conservation Week, on-going projects and activities as well as accomplishments of the bureau were highlighted during the presscon.

SOA is a free educational program jointlyundertaken by the DOST-Philippine Councilfor Aquatic Marine Research andDevelopment, BFAR, LGU Sta. Teresita,LGU Gonzaga and Cagayan StateUniversity – Gonzaga Campus. MayorRosendo Abad of Gonzaga warmlywelcomed all the graduates and guestdespite bad weather.

Top three outstanding students/fisherfolkfrom both said municipalities werecommended and received prizes whileother graduates received tokens and giftcertificates for 1,000 pcs tilapia fingerlings.

A NOISE OF AWARENESS. Lead Carsiren together with the playing ofMandaragat Song catch the attention ofby-standers as well as passers-by alongthe populated streets in TuguegaraoCity which signifies the opening of theFish Con week celebration. Otheragencies like DA RFU2,DAR,NNC,RFTC,PIA, PNP OPA, andother stakeholders joined in themotorcade which was immediatelyfollowed by the program, the ribbon-cutting, tour to the exhibit site and thelaunching of the Fish Foot Spa.

Dr. Elson Aca of WWF shared lectureon Marine Mammal Stranding to MAO’s,fishery technicians and fishery lawenforcers.

The “Balay ni Ifan” dance troupecomposed of media practitionersfrom different agencies also renderedan applauding performance.

Fish Foot Spa Launching

Feel the difference. Part of the opening program is the launching of the First Fish Foot SPA in Region 02. Not just for fishponds anymore, small fishes can now be used to rejuvenate tired weary feet by nimbling on dead cells and thus give a sensational massage.

Fisheries Resource Enhancement

KUDOS COASTAL DWELLERS!Once again, “SCUBASURERO” jointly undertaken by Scuba Divers of BFAR, DENR, Phil. Navy, FARMC, LGU-Sta. Ana and CEZA seized the underwater to clean-up debris but good to know that people are now aware of proper waste disposal compared of last year where lots of debris were taken from the bottom of the sea. today, sea bottom is considered clean and free from non-biodegradable trash.

Mangrove Planting

CLIMATE CHANGE MITIGATION. Mangrove planting was conducted in different coastal areas. Apagonan River at Aparri, Cagayan was planted with 200 pcs. Mangrove seedling; BSF &NLFROS spearheded the planting of 500 seedlings along riverbank of Minanga Weste, Buguey and Centro, Sta. Teresita, Cagayan; CBFF together with LGU Sanchez Mira Mayor Napoleon Sacramed and LGU officials planted 1500 mangrove seedlings along riverbanks of Namuac and Pata River.

PANGASIUS Cooking Contest

Try these different recipes from Pangasius (P) as 11 contenders show their best recipes during the Pangasius Cooking Contest.

3rd – Pangasius in Shitake Mushroom Sauce prepared by Rabby Quilang and Cardijon Jan dela Cruz from the University of Saint Louis Tuguegarao (USLT)

2nd – Pangasius in Lemon Grass & Coconut Sauce by Raul Rosopa and Diane Cabilin of USLT.

!st – Pangasius Cake by Mark Leo Gante and Reinheart Chezzhire Paul Mariano of St. Paul University.

Other recipes include P.Spaghetti, P. Nuggets w/ nutmeg gravy sauce, Curried P., Fried P. w/ polenta crust & tomato caper sauce, P. Fillet on mushroom regent. Grilled P. Barbeque, Fried P. w/ special black beans sauce an Breaded P. Fingers w/ Garlic Mayo dip.

Fingerling Dispersal

Fisheries Resource Enhancement

Fingerling Dispersal Unit distributed a total of 2.20 million tilapia fingerlings to the four provinces of Region 02.

All BFAR ROS and Provincial LGU’s also had their dispersalactivities during the celebration.

Coastal/Riverbank Clean-Up

APCFF Staff spearheaded the cleaning of riverbank along Cagayan River at Minanga Sur and Norte, Iguig, Cagayan together with the members of the Barangay and the Sangguniang Kabataan.

BSF& NLFROS also conducted Coastal Clean-up together with Brgy. Officials along the coastal barangays of Buguey and Centro, Sta. Teresita, Cagayan.

Coastal/Riverbank Clean-UpFishery Law Enforcement Day

KUDOS TO THE AWARDEES. FRMD spearheads the Fishery Law enforcement day with the conduct of Advance Training on Law Enforcement participated by PNP, FARMC/AFC, PLGUs/LGUs, BFAR Extenson Workers, Quarantine Officers and other institutions like media and representative from other government and non – Government Organizations. It was highlighted by the awarding of Outstanding DFW’s, FARMC and Fishery Law Enforcers. (see separate sheet of awardees)

Aquaculture Symposium

Technology & Livelihood Day

Extension Division spearheads the Technology and Livelihood Day. Together with RFTC, a one day symposium was conducted with seminars on new technologies on Ulang, Tilapia, Carp, Pangasius, Ornamental Fishes, Duckweeds, Rice-Fish Culture and Issues on Climate Change.

A total of 200 participants mostly Municipal Agriculturists and Fishery Technicians and private cooperators attended the seminar.

Patrol and Market Denial

Fishery Law Enforcers from the bureau conducted market denial in fish landings and fish market in the municipalities of Aparri, Gonzaga and Sta. Ana.

Also conducted overt and covert patrol and surveillance work at the coastal municipalities of Sta. Ana, Gonzaga and Buguey and information dissemination on the importance of fish conservation during the dialogue with the fisherman along the said three municipalities

Closing Program

Despite poor weather as Typhoon Ramil approach the City, a simple ceremony was conducted that was highlighted with the awarding of media people who helped in the dissemination of information on the programs, projects and activities of the bureau. Also, exhibitors who joined the agency in the five-day exhibit were also recognized and given certificates and tokens.

A Yoga activity was conducted in the afternoon while other staff are busy securing their equipments and properties as Typhoon Ramil is expected to hit Cagayan this day.

lagoon and SWIP.•Distributed 1,150 ornamental fish to OPA-Ilagan, BFAR Tuguegarao City and awarded 100 pcs. to students and pupils.•Distributed 100 pcs leaflets/flyers on aquaculture of freshwater species to walk-in fishfarmers, LGU’s, students and teachers.
