2.0 INTRODUCTION OF THE PROJECT/ PROJECT BACKGROUND 2.1 Introduction of the Project

Name & Location of project : 1.539 Ha BRICK EARTH EXCAVATION PROJECT AT GATA NO. 3CH, 85, 400k, 193, 447, 488, 580, Village- Hargarh Tehsil- Sadar, District- Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh

2.2 Brief description of the nature of project The project is excavation of brick earth, notified as Minor Mineral, from agricultural Land. The capacity of the project is mining of 7479.5 cum per annum of brick earth manually.

2.3 Need of the project and its importance to the country and or region

The excavated brick earth will be molded as semi dried bricks at the project site and will be sent to the nearest brick kiln for manufacture of burnt bricks. The bricks will further be used for construction of building and other infrastructure projects.

2.4 Demand supply Gap

As brick earth is used for manufacturing of bricks, which leads to further usage as construction material for building and other infrastructure projects, the demand due to rapid urbanization and increase in infrastructure projects leads to huge demand of bricks and brick earth.

2.5 Export Possibility The entire consumption of excavated brick earth is consumed in nearest brick kiln therefore, there is no possibility for export of the excavated brick earth.

2.6 Domestic / Export Markets The entire product will be consumed in the local kiln and therefore there is no export possibility envisaged.

2.7 Employment Generation (Direct and indirect) Due to project The project directly generates the employment for the local people, mainly unskilled workers, and indirect benefit for operation of brick kilns.

3.0 PROJECT DESCRIPTION 3.1 Type of project including interlinked and interdependent projects, if any:

The project involves excavation of brick earth and will lead to operation of Brick Kilns.

3.2 Location of Project Location (map showing general location, specific location and project boundary layout) incorporated in the figure given below.

3.3 Details of alternate sites considered and the basis of selecting the proposed site, particularly the environment considerations gone into should be highlighted. No other site is considered for the proposed project.

3.4 Size or Magnitude of operation The size of the lease area is 1.539 Ha and the production will be 6380.2 Cum Per Annum Brick Earth.

3.5 Raw material required along with estimated quantity, likely source, marketing area, of final product/ s, mode of transport of raw material and finished product. It is a project of brick earth excavation. Raw Material requirement includes the excavated soil and RETA.

3.6 Availability of water, its sources

The water requirement for the project will be met through bore well/ dug wells for human consumption and soil mix preparation.

3.7 Waste generation and disposal of waste

This project is excavation of brick earth, therefore, 0% generation of waste is anticipated in form of over burden. Mobile toilets will be provided and very small amount of municipal waste will be generated; however collection bins will be provided for the same and will be dumped in a proper way.

3.7.1 Generation of waste water

There is waste water generation during the process, waste water collected after hand and feet washing will be used for dust suppression.

4.0 SITE ANALYSIS (i) Connectivity: The site is not connected to any National Highway or State

Highway.

(ii) Land form, land use and land ownership Land Form The lease area is located in Agricultural land. Land Use Present land use of the site is Agriculture and post excavation, the land will still be used for agricultural purpose.

(iv) Existing land use pattern and distances from forests, CRZ, etc. Existing land use pattern is agricultural. The site is not within forest land.

(v) Existing infrastructure: Road facility: Site is connected with road.

(vi) Climate The climate in Mirzapur is warm and temperate. In winter, there is much more rainfall in Mirzapur than in summer. This climate is considered to be Csa according to the Köppen-Geiger climate classification. The average annual temperature in Mirzapur is 26.0 °C. The rainfall here averages 975 mm

5.0 PLANNING IN BRIEF AND EXCAVATION PROCESS

The process includes Soil Wining, Soil Mix Preparation (with addition of Reta, Molding and Drying). The operation of the entire process takes place throughout the year except for monsoon and rainy days. It is anticipated that the operation of the project will take place for about 225 days in a year.

J

Soil Wining o Includes operation like excavation of soil and sieving of excavated soil o Depth restricted to 1 m maximum o Typical manpower required for winning 3 m3 of soil ranges from 2 – 4 person-

hour o Generally done in afternoon o Entire process is carried out manually

Soil Mix Preparation

o This activity involves mixing of water in the excavated soil o Practical estimation of water required for preparation of soil mix is 0.9 L/brick o Typical moisture content of the mix is about 25-35% w/w o The mix is then left in open for the entire night o Manpower required for soil mix sufficient for making 1000 bricks is estimated

to be 2-4 person-hour o This activity is done after soil winning operation and in the evening time of

the day o Entire activity is done manually

Molding

o The clay mass is transformed into the shape of mold manually o During this stage, additive in the form of RETA (from a degraded land where

% of sand is more than clay) is used to reduce the stickiness of the soil mix o Constituent of RETA in the mix is 3.2% - 3.4% of the brick volume o Molding is done either by wooden or metallic mold o Manpower required for molding 100 bricks is estimated to be 1 person-hour o Entire activity is done manually

Drying

o Molded bricks are laid in open initially and then stacked for drying o Combined action of sun and wind removes moisture from the brick o Moisture content in the brick after drying is reduced to 3% - 15% w/w o Drying days vary from season to season and depending on the weather

condition o As per discussion with various operators' earlier experiences, the drying

period varies from 9 days to 15 days o The entire activity is stopped during rainy days and monsoon season

5.1 Drilling & Blasting No blasting is required for Brick Earth excavation.

6.0 REHABILITATION AND RESETTLEMENT (R & R) PLAN

There will be no rehabilitation and resettlement for this project.
