Let’s take a poll!

Most students, after high school,

are wanting:

To go straight to college

To go straight into the

workforce

To take a gap year between

high school and college

Or they still don’t know what they want to do

Job Exploration Counseling

•Provides students the opportunities to explore their dream jobs

•Give them a variety of resources to look back on as time goes on

•Provide as much information so that students can make informed choices about their path

Work-Based Learning Experiences

• Work-based learning experiences in a group setting may include coordinating a classroom-based program of job training and informational interviews to research employers, work-site tours to learn about necessary job skills, job shadowing, or mentoring opportunities in the community.

• Work-based learning experiences on an individual basis could include work experiences to explore the student’s area of interest through paid and unpaid internships, apprenticeships, short-term employment, fellowships, or on-the-job trainings located in the community.

COUNSELING ON OPPORTUNITIES FOR POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION PROGRAMS

Getting Started How do I get an Apprenticeship?

Identify an occupation where you have an interest, aptitude or experience.

Commit to meeting the minimum education requirements, such as a high

school diploma, GED or HiSET equivalency test, within six months of start.

Determine whether this will be a good fit. Do you have the commitment,

aptitude, work ethic, and attitude to work under the required job conditions?

Get started! You'll be a part of the workforce and start earning a paycheck

from Day One. You'll receive on-the-job training from skilled mentors. Once

you complete your program, you'll receive a nationally recognized certificate

that announces to employers that you are qualified.
