PRAYER National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is celebrated across Australia each year between 27 May and 3 June. The dates commemorate two significant milestones in the reconciliation journey—the anniversaries of the successful 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision. The week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements and to explore how each of us can join the national reconciliation effort. The theme for NRW 2015 is ‘it’s time to change it up’. TCC was proud to launch its Reconciliation Action Plan last year during NRW. I encourage everyone to continue to engage with our RAP and to continue to pray for true reconciliation.

From the PRINCIPAL

The Inter-House Athletics Carnival, last Friday was a great day which enabled students to be involved in a whole

different area of educational experience at the College. Representing their House and offering their talents, there

were hundreds of examples of students trying their best. It reinforces the theme that we constantly put in front of

students, “always do your best”. I know this is a message that parents give to their sons and daughters too. On

Friday, we saw talented athletes achieving wonderful feats and we also saw others not as gifted going “flat out” to

help their House points. Well done to all.

At this point in time, the results of the carnival have not been announced. This will happen on Friday at College

Assembly. There, we’ll celebrate the success of Age Champions and the spirit of the House system at the College.

Many thanks to Mr Stevenson (Director of Sport) for his organisation of a very well-run carnival and many staff and

students who arrived early to set-up and stayed late to pack-up.

CELEBRATING ONE YEAR AS BISHOP

This Friday, Bishop Michael McCarthy celebrates one year as Bishop of Rockhampton. Congratulations Bishop

Michael! It is always a challenge to start a new job in a new town but your role would be even more demanding than

most. Thank you Bishop Michael for your leadership of our Diocese and your support for our College and all those

who are part of it.

FAREWELL MONSIGNOR GRACE

This Thursday, we farewell a man who has been a constant in our Diocese for a long time. Monsignor John Grace, is

unquestionably a good man, who has supported our College in so many ways. He has been like a rock, in terms of his

solid support for TCC. He has encouraged, offered sensible counsel, listened to our concerns, fostered strong links

between the parish and our College. He leaves Rockhampton to take up an appointment as Rector of the Seminary in

Brisbane. May God bless you and keep you, Father Grace.

Monsignor Grace’s farewell Mass is Thursday 28th May at 5pm in the Cathedral. All are welcome.

TCC/Parish Mass

Thank you to all those who were able to attend the TCC/Parish Mass on Saturday evening. Congratulations to the

thirteen students who accepted their invitation to continue their journey to the completion of the Sacraments of

Initiation. The next TCC/Parish Mass is on 13 June at 6pm in the Cathedral. Nine of our students will be baptised at

this Mass and these nine plus another four will be confirmed by Bishop Michael and receive first Eucharist. Our

community is encouraged to come along and support these young people.

Parish Fair

This year the Southside Parish Fair is to be held following the 10am Mass on Sunday 19 July in the grounds of TCC.

Unlimited ride passes are available from the front counter of the College for a reduced price of $25. This entitles the

holder to unlimited rides for the duration of the Fair. Students bring the receipt on the day and will be issued with

an armband. Some of the rides will be: Super Slide, Swing Ride, Jumping Castle and Pirate Ship.

Mrs Claire Stitt From the ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL: CURRICULUM CHANGE TO ASSESSMENT DATES Year 9 Assessment Aqua, Blue, Gold, Green, Orange and Red Assessment Schedules have been updated in the areas of Maths, Graphics and Visual Art. Please ensure your daughter/son is using the updated version. Year 11 Business Management The exam scheduled for Wednesday 3 June is now on Friday 5 June. Year 10 Subject Handbooks Subject Handbooks were distributed to students last Thursday. Students are required to familiarise themselves with study pathways and subject offerings prior to the workshop on Thursday 4 June. The workshop is compulsory for all Year 10 students. They are required to wear business attire or their school uniform. An example of suitable business attire is: Girls: Long pants/knee length skirt, button up blouse, closed in shoes. Light make-up is allowed on this day. Boys: Long pants, button up shirt, closed in shoes. Jeans, T shirts and thongs are not appropriate. From the ACADEMIC DEAN – SCIENCE

This Week In Science…..

The year 8 Science students have spent this semester studying chemical and physical changes, chemical reactions, cells and living systems. They have been undertaking a wide range of experiments and recording all these experimental results in their practical log books. These log books will contribute to 25 % of their overall result this semester.

L. Campbell Smith, Riley Mole and Laken Peacock using a microscope to view the organisms found in a sample of pond water.

The year 11 Engineering Technology classes have been studying dynamics, statics and engineering materials this semester. Their project was to design, build and analyse the forces within a construction crane. The crane had strict specifications and limits on the construction materials. Each group were allowed six sticks of 6mm square balsa, pins and glue. Their cranes had to support a load of 1 kg. R. Georgia Crichton and Alesha Stehbens examining a variety of engineering materials including ores of copper, iron and zinc. Several samples of corroded steel and copper products were also examined to better understand the corrosion process.

From the CULTURAL DIRECTOR Music Ministry

Many thanks to the students in the Music Ministry Group who sang and played at the TCC/Parish Mass on Saturday

evening. The Psalm was beautifully sung by Lara Glazbrook. The group rehearses each Monday at first lunch and

always welcomes new members.

Sisters of Mercy Jubilee Celebrations

Five of our students along with Mrs Claire Stitt, Dr Ayesha Hall and myself were honoured to be asked to lead the

congregation in song at the recent diamond and golden jubilee celebration for six of the Sisters of Mercy. Grace,

Madeleine and Hannah Griffin and Sophie and Elise Moffat sang at the Mass to honour the sisters for their

accumulative 320 years of dedicated service. We are always grateful to the sisters for their friendship and generous

support of our students and staff.

The Diocesan Catholic Schools’ Music Camp

To date 120 students from around the diocese have registered for the music camp that will take place in the last

week of this term. The camp will run from Tuesday 23 (lunchtime) to Thursday 25 June culminating in a gala concert

at 6pm on that evening. These instrumental and vocal students will have the opportunity to make music together

under the guidance of their music tutors and invited specialist musicians. For organisational purposes it is important

TO REGISTER AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. If you are experiencing difficulty opening the link on the parent letter to

register for the camp, please let us know.

The camp is non-residential and families are asked to consider billeting students from out of town. PLEASE LET ME

KNOW (ASAP) IF YOU ARE ABLE TO BILLET ANY STUDENTS. At least two students will be billeted together. Thank you

to the families who have already offered to billet.

The Cultural Supporters Group will again prepare and serve the food during the music camp. If anyone is available

to assist with the preparation and serving of tea on Tuesday evening, lunch on Wednesday and Thursday and the

Thursday evening BBQ prior to the concert please contact me on (49991331) or via email -

Rehearsal this Sunday is from 1-3pm for ALL CAST (shorter due to eisteddfod commitments early evening). Please

Eisteddfod Successes

Congratulations to all students who have performed in groups or individually in the eisteddfod to date. The Vocal

section of the eisteddfod commences today. The choir and all vocal ensembles will perform on Sunday evening. The

groups will rehearse at school from 4.30pm and the college bus will transport everyone to the Pilbeam Theatre at

5.30pm.

Two of our year 11 students were presented with awards at the close of the Speech and Drama section last night.

Mackenzie Evans won the Nola McClymont Trophy for the highest marks in Australian Poem under 18 years and

Emily Crow was the recipient of the Renton Power Trophy for the highest marks in Drama under 18 years.

Congratulations girls on these outstanding achievements.

A sheet has been placed in PC folders and all students who performed (not just the place getters) are invited to list

their achievements. These will be published in the chronicle at the conclusion of the eisteddfod.

From the Rugby League Coordinator Super 8s Congratulations to the TCC 15 Years team who have finished first in the southern section of the Super 8s competition. The TCC 15 Years and Open teams will now travel to Townsville on Tuesday the 2nd of June to play Ignatius Park College at the Brother’s Townsville Complex. Registration Forms All players (Year 7 to Year 12) are reminded that rugby league forms are required by the end of this week with the $30.00 registration fee. All forms and money must be handed in to the College reception area.

Has your son/daughter organised their work experience yet? Thank you to parents and students who have.

There are still some students who have not handed in any paperwork, so I’m assuming your child has a placement arranged.

The cut-off date for June/July placements is Thursday 4th June.

Agreement forms will not be accepted after this date.

Last week we had an Engineering meeting. Students who are interested have put their names down for placement.

If your child was unable to attend, please ask them to come and see me in the library.
