May our students always be comforted by their faith, friendships and families. May the significance of these things in their lives bring comfort, for when the sometimes hectic and stressful times are over, their memories will be of people, of love and of faith. From the PRINCIPAL

The Gospel on Sunday contained a blueprint for all of us in how to live our lives. “This is my commandment: love one

another, as I have loved you.” Then in case we missed it: “What I command you is to love one another.” The message

conveyed through John’s Gospel 15: 9-17 sounds simple enough but of course it is not just a case of loving those we

like. Jesus is asking us, telling us, we need to love everybody this way.

Nearly 200 of our students put this in action on Friday when they agreed to help with the Red Shield Appeal

Doorknock to be held Saturday 30th May. The funds the students collect, allows the Salvation Army to help some of

those at the fringes of our society. Through their stewardship, the students are loving others they know to be

struggling and in need of their help.

CHECKING E-MAILS

I would ask parents to help us in encouraging students to check their College e-mail accounts daily. We have been

using e-mails to convey important information to students for some time but we have found not all students are

checking them daily. Students have now received a number of reminders via assemblies that we expect this of them.

Enhancing Catholic Schools Identity Project

A big thank-you to all the parents who have completed the surveys which are an important part of this project. The

surveys will close on Friday 22 May. I am currently gathering other data that will be submitted to give the project

organisers a picture of the Catholic community that is TCC. Feedback will be provided later in the year about the

results of the surveys and future directions identified as a result of the project.

Prayers and Blessings,

Mrs Claire Stitt

Year 11 Physics Guest Lecturers from Ergon

Physics is the study of matter, energy, space and time. Year 11 Physics students this term are working on an

Extended Response Task about alternatives sources of Electricity. They were fortunate to hear from two guest

lecturers namely Tony Picton (Ergon Linesman) and Dr Steven Senini (Ergon Load Modelling Engineer) about

different facets of electricity.

Tony talked about working out and about in the field and how they have to incorporate safety while repairing faults

on live transmission wires. The students had a lot of fun manipulating the different pieces of equipment while

wearing the uniform along with the safety gear.

Steven spoke about the planning and forecasting of loads for the community as well as maintenance of various

equipment. The talk was well received by the students as it gave them a picture of what goes on behind the actual

production of electricity.

Overall it was an enjoyable and learning experience for the students that will help them in their assignment this term

as well as give them an insight into engineering as a career choice.

Mr Aaron Nunn Year 11 ACTS Camp Last week the three of us were lucky enough to attend and participate in the Year 11 ACTS camp from Wednesday to Friday. ACTS stands for ‘A Chance to Serve’ as the camp focused on helping and preparing us to become leaders in our schools. During the camp we met and shared our stories with like-minded people from schools across the Diocese. We also completed many activities which included finding our passion and utilising this passion to find our ‘element’ in life. We went deeper into the meaning of why we believe in the things we do. This helped us to connect to what is important in life as well as learn our personal attributes and gifts. At the end of the retreat we let go of the toxic things in our lives which then allows us to move forward. ACTS camp was an uplifting and memorable experience that we all enjoyed. To anyone that is able to go, we strongly recommend that you take up this opportunity. We would also like to mention a special thanks to Miss Vanderpal who made it possible for us to attend the camp. Sophie Bongers, Tayla Browne and Bryanna Welsh

From the DIRECTOR OF SPORT The College’s interhouse athletics carnival is scheduled to be held on Friday, May 22, 2015 at CQ University’s athletics oval, Yaamba Road. All students are expected to attend and support their House. Students are required to be at the university’s athletics oval by 8:30am. The carnival will conclude at 2:15pm. Buses will be provided to all boarding and any day students who require transport to and from the university. Buses will depart from the MPC at 8:35am. Parents are however, encouraged to drop-off and collect students if possible. To ensure the safety of our students, any students who have not been collected from the University by 2:45pm will be transport back to the College and can be collected from the Close. Students must wear their sports uniform (House shirts are strongly encouraged) to and from the venue, however, are permitted to compete in attire (shorts only) which is more suited to running and field events. Closed in shoes must be worn for all events. Students will not be permitted to compete without shoes. Sunscreen and water will be available for students, however, all students must bring their own water bottle. A canteen will be operating on the day. Due to time constraints all high jump events will be held prior to the main carnival. These events will be held on Wednesday, May 20 for girls from 3:15pm and for boys on Thursday, May 21, 2015 commencing at 3:15pm. All students nominated in these events must attend. Students wishing to do ‘flop’ must have a signed note from a qualified athletics coach acknowledging their competence. For safety reasons all other students will be required to do ‘scissors’. Further details regarding the interhouse athletics carnival follow. Students have also been notified through the daily notices and by email. RD Cross-Country Carnival

In March this year Griffith University Open Conservatorium invited regional State Honours Ensemble Program (SHEP) participants to audition for a place in PHEP. PHEP forms part of the Western International Band Clinic held in Seattle, Washington, USA and involves rehearsals and performances with six different guest international and national conductors.
