Oct. 14-1528th Sunday in Ordinary TimeIn today’s Gospel we see that God continues to invite, but that the first on the list did not accept the invitation. The second tier invitees did come, but we see in the parable that it is possible to be asked to leave if we are not ready to accept all that God has to offer, both the banquet and the wedding garment. When we accept being in a relationship with God we are called to embrace whole new ways of being and thinking which are determined by God’s will, not ours. Some invited by God might not be on our list, who is it that God calling us to accept what might be difficult right now?

En el Evangelio de hoy vemos que Dios continúa invitando, aunque los primeros en la lista no aceptaron la invitación. El segundo grupo de los invitados si vino, pero vemos en la parábola que es posible que se nos pida retirarnos si no estamos listos para aceptar lo que Dios nos ofrece, ambas cosas, el banquete y el traje de boda. Cuando aceptamos estar en una relación con Dios, somos llamados a aceptar totalmente nuevas maneras de ser y pensar las cuales están determinadas por la voluntad de Dios, no la nuestra. Algunos invitados por Dios puede que no estén en nuestra lista, ¿A quién nos está llamando Dios a aceptar que nos resulta difícil en este momento?

PhilippiansTowards the end of his life, under arrest and awaiting trial in Rome, Saint Paul writes a short but powerful letter to the Philippians. Paul’s affection for the Christian community at Philippi is apparent from his opening words. The Philip-pians were not only Paul’s sons and daughters in the Faith but also his partners in sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The members of the Society are planning for our annual Angel Tree event. The purpose of this event is to provide gifts to the children of families in need within our parish bound-ary. We have selected the families from those we serve. If you are aware of a family in need in our parish, please encourage them to call our SVDP cell at 512-415-4012. We would also like to take this opportunity to

thank the generosity of our parishioners who have been so faithful in their prayers for our mission to serve the poor and have been so generous with their financial assistance. We, along with our neighbors in need, will keep you in our prayers.

Are you wanting to learn more about our faith? Are you just sitting in your car waiting for your kids to get out of religious education classes? Take that leap of faith because we have something for you. We are excited to announce this years’ theme for the Adult Faith Formation classes. We will be studying Jeff Cavins’, Acts: The Spread of the Kingdom. Acts: The Spread of the Kingdom, builds on The Bible Timeline and Matthew by showing how Christ’s Kingdom on earth is empowered to carry out His work in the world. The book of Acts shows the Church, enlivened by the Holy Spirit, teaching, preaching, healing, and restoring outcasts in the same way that Jesus did on earth. The Acts of the Apostles provides a historic framework for understanding the rest of the New Testament. Paul’s letters in particular come alive in a new way when they are read within the context of the Acts narrative. This will be offered on Wednesday evening at 6:45 p.m. in English with Anna Lara in the Knights of Columbus room (PAC301) and in Spanish with Art Lara.

On Sundays, we will have a Spanish session at 9:45 a.m. in room 208 of the Education Building, on Dios Te Salve, Reina Y Madre: La Biblia y La Virgen Maria presented by Martha Calderon. Currently, we are seeking a Catechist to present Acts: The Spread of the Kingdom program in English.

This is open to everyone come join us for this year’s Adult Faith Formation Program. Classes will begin the week of September 24th and follow the RE calendar for the year. For more information please contact the RE Office.
