A message from Fr. Silouan:Our annual meeting is a month away (November 14th during FellowshipHour) and part of my responsibility as the Rector of St. Michael’s isdetermining who is a member in good-standing - a voting member of theparish. I hope everyone that considers St. Michael’s their parish aspires tobe in good-standing. I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know some of you,but it goes without saying, I have a long way to go to truly know most ofyou. In good faith, I trust that those who attend and vote at the meetingwill be members in good-standing. So how would I define being in “good-standing?” I’ve listed some statements below. Would you be able to say “Iagree” to each of them? I realize some of you may still be working towardsaccomplishing these items (a full tithe, for example); please know yourintent counts as well. The key is making an honest effort to achieve thefollowing. If you disagree with any of this, we should talk.! As a parishioner of St. Michael’s Orthodox Church, I understand thatregular participation at the Divine Services (not only Sunday’s DivineLiturgy) is essential for spiritual nourishment and growth.! I understand that the Divine Sacraments, such as confession andcommunion, are a free gift of God’s Love and that proper preparation andfrequent participation in them is necessary for salvation.! I understand that being a member of a Christian community requires theGod-pleasing sacrifices of Time, Talent, and Treasure as far as I am able tooffer up to His Glory and for the building up of His Holy Church. Thismeans I am active in the parish community using my time and talents, and, as far as I am able, I support the Church through my treasurers - mytithes (“tithe” is a Biblical term - 10% of one’s income) and offerings (anoffering is above and beyond the tithe - Good Samaritan fund, Veteransoffering, Family Promise, Seminarian appeal, monasteries, food-bank, etc.)
