Testimony
Dr Famkima Darlong, Superintendent, TLM Hospital, Purulia, West Bengal
I joined a Mission hospital right after I was out ofMedical College. After three months, I wanted to quitdue to many reasons that made sense to me in thosedays. Before finally taking that step, I met anotherdoctor with whom I shared my concerns. After ourconversation he asked me, “Mission hospitals arebuilt for people like us (Christian doctors) to work;if we do not, then who will?" That one question mademe change my perception. I have worked in threedifferent organisations and have experienced almostthe same struggles, challenges, joy and fulfilment.I still grumble, criticise many issues, and getdiscouraged because I am a fallen human - but He isgood! I remain His son and the joy and fulfilment ofserving Him is always there for me.
In the midst of all my plans, doings and achievementsI try not to lose that focus. C.S. Lewis, in his book,'Mere Christianity', wrote, “A ship has to know threethings when it goes to the sea: How to keep floating inthe water, how to keep against colliding, but the mostimportant thing it should know .... why is it there in thesea in the first place?” That is the question I keepasking myself....as long as I have the right answer,I will continue serving Him joyfully!
