BASIC CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY

We have started a new program, namely “Basic Christian Community” (BCC) in our Parish. Basic Christian Community is the life style of early Christians. Few families gather at a home and they pray and reflect over the Word of God. It will enrich our lives and provide a good opportunity to pray for others. It will strengthen our relationship with one another. If anyone wants to have Basic Christian Community in their home, please contact Fr. Heniston.

+ Confirmation News

As you relish the goodies, decorate every nook and corner of your home and enjoy the get-togethers... May the joy and festivities continue to radiate in your lives, long after Christmas is gone. Merry Christmas! Happy New Year! This weekend December 25, 2016 (Christmas Day) there will be no sessions for both Year I and Year II confirmation candidates. The next sessions for the confirmation Program for both Year I and Year II will start on Jan. 8, 2017. However all the candidates and their parents are encouraged to get to the church and participate in Masses of this season.

If you have any concerns or questions please call Fr.Xavier on 781-244-9162 or email at [email protected]

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK In Bethlehem, Christmas Hymns are sung the year round. It is powerful reminder to every pilgrim visiting the place of Jesus’ birth that the spirit of Christmas, the love it so tenderly reveals, must be lived year round. There is no other season of the year that enjoy more. The stars in our children’s yes, the tears of gratitude in the eyes of parents and grandparents, the opportunity of being more thoughtful to others, the loving spirit that seems to pervade all, the smell of varied Christmas trees and packages surrounding them are all precious happenings. I always whisper a silent prayer of gratitude for having witnessed another Christmas. Yet, I must admit to mixed emotions. I desire to capture the happy memories, but there is always creeping within me those sad memories too. I think of the young mother who lost her 10 month old son to cancer, the senior citizen who was just diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease, the sixteen year old girl who suffers from mental and physical abuse, the young father of two who just lost his wife to cancer, the poor family I visited this week who had no food for Christmas. Such examples will mean very little unless I find a way to understand the misery, the hurt feelings, the sufferings of those around me. These examples are warning to me to challenge the evil that causes them. I will make every effort to assist people to accept what cannot be changed. I will, at the same time, give of my time and energy to help people changed what can be changed. The love revealed in the birth of Jesus, must continue to live in my day to day living experience if it is to have any real meaning in my life and in the lives of those I serve in His name. Merry Christmas!

Fr. George *

ChristmasMeaningful Christmas

The world of consumerism and technology sow the seeds of indifference among the people. Ignoring indifference Christians all over world joyfully prepare to celebrate the historical birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. Pope Francis described this atmosphere as a culture of indifference. Such kind of celebration will never be a meaningful Christmas. Communication is important to make the relationship alive. When our hearts are full of indifference there is no possibility to have genuine relationship. When we ignore others, or do not have genuine relationship with others (the marginalized and the poor), the celebration of Christmas will be meaningless. Christ came into the world as the dawn to dispel the darkness and as a free gift of God the Father. His birth makes us joyful by giving liberation from the clutches of sin. The joy received through Him would multiply when we share this with others. I am very happy that many of our parishioners willingly share their blessings with others in the form of gift cards and food for the poor people. To make this Christmas more meaningful let us share our blessings with the marginalized and the poor. Like indifference there are other elements which will be hindrance to get blessings from new born baby Jesus. They are judgmental attitude, gossip, impure thoughts, cold relationship with our friends and family members. It is our duty to keep our hearts and mind pure by participating in the sacrament of confession. Let us say good bye to indifference and other unhealthy elements to make our Christmas meaningful. Prayer: Loving God, you made your beloved Son to be born on this earth to save us from the clutches of sin. I thank you for all the blessings. Give me a heart to share my blessings with others and make my celebration of Christmas more meaningful. I ask this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen. Edited and compiled by Fr. Heni

The Nativity of the Lord The Lectionary gives four different sets of readings for this great feast: The Vigil Mass, Mass during the night, at dawn, and during the day. The readings are very familiar: the genealogy in Matthew, the Journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem, stories of shepherds and angels in Luke, and the magnificent Prologue to John’s Gospel, “in the beginning was the Word… ”Whatever readings you hear, try to hear them with new ears and give thanks for the greatest gift. “Awesome” is so overused but it doesn’t even begin to describe Christmas. God loved us so much, He sent His son to be with us, to be one of us, to redeem us. Just think about that and give thanks. We should all be like the angels, singing, “Glory to God in the highest”. And, if singing, isn’t your thing, at least be ready to share your story of God’s goodness and how Jesus has worked in your life with at least one other person this week.

* Christmas Time

Christmas is one of the most important

days of the Church year, second only to Easter itself. It is the feast of the incarnation, the feast of God becoming flesh (the Latin "in carne" means "enfleshment"). It is a uniquely Christian teaching, the Divine choosing to become one of us. Because of this belief, God is not only Transcendent, but also wholly Immanent, Emmanuel (God-with-us). While remaining Transcendent (meaning we must rise above our present condition to reach Him), He is at the same time Immanent (meaning He is with us as we rise toward Him). Every Eucharist is like Christmas where the bread and wine are transformed into His flesh, His Body and Blood, and, in a sense, He is born anew on the altar. The liturgical season of Christmas begins with the vigil Masses on Christmas Eve and concludes on the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord. During this season, we celebrate the birth of Christ into our world and into our hearts, and reflect on the gift of salvation that is born with him…including the fact that he was born to die for us.
