Pratham Institute - An Overview

At Pratham Institute for Literacy, Education & Vocational Training, we work across the country to provide individuals with the employability skills needed to address India’s growing need for skilled manpower. Our target students are typically those who have dropped out of school or have only completed their formal education up to the 8th or 10th standard.

• Between now and 2025 over 250 million young people are estimated to enter the Indian workforce, while only 5% of youth aged 20-24 have obtained vocational skills through a formal training system.

• Many young men and women drop out of the formal educational system without an awareness of the array of alternative educational and employment opportunities available to them. These students often settle in rural areas and engage in daily wage work, and are not privy to the industry growth evident in urban areas.

Bedside Assistance

Manorama is a married woman with a child, hailing from Killari village in Latur. Her husband’s behavior towards her has always been abusive. Manorama knew she wanted to make something out of her life so that she could stand up to her husband. This is when she learned about the Bedside Assistance Program that PACE has to offer. She was determined and registered herself in the course. While taking the course, she had to overcome many difficulties. Not only was her husband unsupportive, he also physically abused her. She used to come to class, only after fully completing all household chores. She has completed two months of training in Sparsh Hospital and has also cleared her exams. She has managed to get a job at Krishna Hospital with a little help from her trainer. She now encourages other women like her to enroll in the program She is happy to have finally become self- sufficient.
