ENDURING FAITH The foilwing clipping appeared in The Gazette of Minneapolis: L. M. Stewart, the eccentric old attor- ney of Minneapolis, is leasing consider- able real estate for a term of one thousand years, with the privilege of extension up- on personal application of the lessee to the lessor. The documents should be ex- ecuted upon something more permanent than parchment. Commenting upon the clipping, a friend of the old gentleman says: “Mr. Stewart, of Minneapolis, better known as Elder Stewart, though not a church mem- ber, is close to the 100 mark. He is the oldest attorney and member of the Bar association and is one of the wealthiest individual property owners in the city, where he has resided since the fifties.”

A certain Sunday-school teacher had a regular set of questions that she asked her pupils every Sunday. Beginning with the first boy, she would ask: “Who made you?” to which he would reply, “The Lord.” Then she would regularly ask the second boy, “Who was the first man?” and he would reply, “Adam.”

One Sunday the first boy was ,away and of course the second boy moved into his place. As usual the teacher began by asking, “Who made you?” The boy replied, “Adam.”

“No,” replied the teacher, “that is not right: the Lord made you.’

“I guess not,” the boy replied; “the boy that the Lord made is away today.”— Mrs. G. W. Loomer, in New Thought.

RESPONSIVE SERVICE

Sunday, January 30

Trust in Jehovah, and do good:Dwell in the land, and feed on his

faithfulness.Delight thyself also in Jehovah;And he shall give thee the desires of thy.

heart.Commit thy way unto Jehovah;Trust also in him, and he shall bring

it to pass.And he shall make thy righteousness

to go forth as the light,And thy judgment as the noonday.Rest in Jehovah, and wait patiently for

him:Fret not thyself because of him who

prospereth in his way,For evil doers shall be cut off:

Than the abundance of many wicked.A man’s goings are established of Je

hovah ;And he delighteth in his way.All the day long he dealeth graciously,

and lendeth;And his seed is blessed.Depart from evil, and do good;And dwell for evermore.The righteous shall inherit the land,And dwell therein for ever.The mouth of the righteous talketh wis

dom,And his tongue speaketh judgment.The law of his God is in. his heart;None of his steps shall slide.Mark the perfect man, and be upright:For there is a happy end to the man of

peace.Blessed is the man that walketh not in

the counsel of the wicked.But those who wait for Jehovah, they

shall inherit the land.For yet a little while, and the wicked

shall not be:Yea, thou shalt diligently consider his

place, and he shall not be.But the meek shall inherit the land;And shall delight themselves in the

abundance of peace.Better is a little that the righteous hath

Nor standeth in the way of sinners,Nor sitteth in the seat of the scoffing.But his delight is in the law of Jehovah;And in his law doth he meditate day

and night.And he shall be like a tree planted by

the streams of water.That bringeth forth its fruit in its sea

son.Whose leaf also doth not wither;And whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

WEEKLY UNITY

THE UNITY VEGETARIAN COOK BOOK

The Cook Book is ready, and at a very opportune time. Everyone is asking how to cook without meat. The answer now is plain. The Unity Cook Book gives more than 300 excellent vegetarian rceipts besides many helps and hints. The pages are large in order to accommodate the plain, readable type. The ingredients that are to be used in the receipt are mentioned separately in each case, so that one may be spared the inconvenience of reading it over several times in order to find out what must be ordered from the store. The book contains 56 pages 13 1-2 inches by 10 inches; words printed in red and black, with artistic cover and contents page. For the table, $1.00 each; for the wall, $1.50.

Ask the Librarian to show them.

A great move is going over the country: thousands of people are becoming vegetarians, who a few days ago would have scoffed at the idea. We have seen pictures of pigs and sheep dancing in glee, but the vegetables are having a time of it. Read the following:

A Ballad o! VegetablesWritten for the Vegetarian Magazine

Joseph Meehan.A Potato went out on a mash

And sought an onion bed;“That’s pie for me!” observed the Squash. And all the beets turned red.

“That’s pie for me!” observed the Squash. “Go ’way!” the onion, weeping cried;

“Your love I cannot be;The pumpkin be vour lawful bride,

You canteloupc with me.”

But onward still the tuber came.And lay down at her, feet;

“You cauliflower by any name And it will smell as wheat;

And I, too am an early rose,

And you I’ve come to see;So don’t turnip your lovely nose.

But spin a chat with me.”‘“I do not carrot all to wed.

So go sir, will you please!”The modest onion meekly said,

“And lettuce pray have peas!Go think that you have never seen

Myself, or smelled my sigh;Too long a maiden I have been

For favors in your rye!”

“Ah, spare a cuss!” the tuber prayed;“My cherryshed bride you’ll be;

You are the only weeping maid That’s currant now with me!”

And as the wily tuber spoke He caught her by surprise,

And, giving: her an artichoke.Devoured her with his eyes.

“The lawful Truths of Spirit are more scientific than the constantly shifting facts of intellectual standards.”—From Twelve Lessons in Christian Healing, hy Charles Fillmore.
