Course contents

Day 1: Fundamentals of Air Dispersion Modeling: This portion of the course will include interactive lecture sessions with topics including Gaussian model behavior, source characterization, building and terrain data, and results interpretation. By the completion of this course, attendees will be able to discuss the fundamentals of air dispersion modeling.

Day 2: Hands-on with BREEZE AERMOD and BREEZE CALPUFF: This portion of the course includes hands-on modeling exercises and interactive lecture sessions with BREEZE AERMOD and BREEZE CALPUFF. By the completion of this course, attendees will be able to:

o Set up, run, and analyze various scenarios designed to introduce the model options that can have a significant impact on model outputs

o Understand model sensitivity, interpreting results, and how to graphically present results (e.g., contour analyses) for easy interpretation

o Receive digital project files, course manual, and book Practical Guide to Atmospheric Dispersion Modeling for future reference

Day 3: Accidental Release Modeling with BREEZE Incident Analyst: On the last day participants will be provided with an in-depth understanding of common source term calculation methods and impact analysis models in order to evaluate potential hazards (including toxics, fires, and explosions) due to accidental release of chemicals under various situations. The technical methods and models to be discussed and used during the course are recognized globally and used routinely to fulfill a variety of regulatory requirements (e.g., risk management planning, emergency response and management, and process safety management). This portion of the course will also include hands-on modeling exercises using BREEZE Incident Analyst. Upon completion of the course, attendees will:

o Understand and know how to utilize basic technical approaches for accidental release modeling analyses

o Learn about common source term calculation methods o Grasp the use of BREEZE Incident Analyst to conduct accidental release modeling

analyses o Gain practice using BREEZE Incident Analyst’s post-processing, 3D Analyst, to analyze

modeling results
