Program for Mastery in Engineering Studies

» Enroll in science and math classes. Skills

developed in these areas will be an

enormous asset, saving time and making

college study much easier.

» Do your best on the SAT or ACT tests.

If you’re a junior, start preparing by

taking the PSAT practice test. The scores

you make on these tests will determine

your college admission status and

qualification for scholarships. Remember, you

can always retake the SAT or ACT exams while in

high school to improve your score.

» Apply to the University of Houston early in your senior year for

admission and scholarships.

Act now! See your counselor for details about the many programs and opportunities available to you during your high school years. PROMES offers two summer engineering programs for high school students. MESET (Mentoring and Enrichment Seminar in Engineering Training) introduces rising seniors to engineering’s many opportunities and requirements. PROMES Summer Camp provides rising 8th – 11th graders with interest in science and engineering a two-week hands-on experience.

Companies from a variety of industries ranging from oil exploration and production to telecommunications sponsor the program along with TAME, SENSR Fund, University of Houston and Cullen College of Engineering.

PR MESUNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON CULLEN COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING

Being new on campus doesn’t have to be an intimidating experience. Getting involved in PROMES can make the transition into university life an exciting and pleasurable experience. You will meet many lifelong friends. PROMES members are involved in other engineering organizations such as the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), Society of Mexican American Engineers and Scientists (MAES), Society of Hispanic Engineers and Scientists (SHPE), and Society of Women Engineers (SWE).

PROMES offers study groups and social activities that will allow you to meet people with similar interests and courses. You will also have the opportunity to meet former PROMES students who are now engineers working in industry.

The program is for students who are interested in pursuing a degree in engineering. If you want to be part of a diversified community of scholars, if you want that “A” by attending Academic Excellence Workshops, and if you are not afraid to do that little ‘extra’ it takes to succeed, then the PROMES program is for you! How you utilize these opportunities is limited only by your ambition.

PROMES can help you work with the university’s Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid and assist you in securing grants and scholarships, and obtaining work-study jobs on campus and summer internships.

PROMES can also direct you into a cooperative education (Co-op) program, where you alternate a semester of work in industry with a semester

of study on campus.

PROMES offers special courses and highly successful workshops designed to give you a good start in engineering. PROMES students who have successfully completed these courses and participated in the workshops will be able to lead study sessions and facilitate workshops. PROMES staff work with you, providing help and advice.
