Cut 1—7” x width of fabric (WOF) strips. Fanfold into 7" widths. Sub cut into 2—6" finished Kite-Centers.

Sewing Directions: Press all seams open and use ¼" seams, unless otherwise indicated. Refer to quilt image for placement and stitching of appliqué blocks.

Kite Blocks 1. Sew two aqua Triangles in Square-Sides shapes onto

either side of a yellow Kite Center shape. Press seams open. Make two yellow Kite Center units.

2. Sew two yellow Triangles in Square-Sides shapes onto either side of an aqua Kite Center shape. Press seams open. Make two aqua Kite Center ter units.

3. Lay out the kite blocks, alternating the yellow and aqua kite centers. Sew the top two blocks together. Press seams open. Sew the bottom two blocks together. Press seams open. Sew the top and bottom rows together. Press seams open. Block should measure 12-1/2” x 12-1/2”.

Sunglasses Emoji Applique 1. Lay out one sunglasses shape and one mouth shape on

top of the yellow 5-1/2” circle. Applique pieces in place to create the Sunglasses Emoji.

Assemble the Quilt Top 1. Sew the 2-1/2” x 12-1/2” aqua strips to the left and right

sides of the quilt block. Press seams toward the aqua strips. Sew the 2-1/2” x 16-1/2” aqua strips to the top and bottom of the quilt block. Press seams toward the aqua strips.

2. Center the Sunglasses Emoji Head in the center of the block. Applique in place.

Quilting and Finishing 1. Layer batting between quilt block and lining.

2. Pin or baste layers together.

3. Quilt as desired.

4. Trim quilted pillow front to 16-1/2” x 16-1/2”.

5. Cut 2—16-1/2” x 10” pieces from the backing for an envelope back pillow.

6. Fold one 16-1/2” edge under 1/4” twice to conceal the raw edge on both backing pieces and stitch into place.

7. Place one backing piece, right sides together, on top of the quilted pillow front with the raw edges aligned at the top and the stitched edge in the middle. Place the second backing piece on top, right side down and raw edges aligning at the bottom of the quilted pillow front with stitched edge in the middle. Pin the three layers along the edge to keep from shifting.

8. Sew along the outside edge, 1/4” from the raw edges, and remove pins along the way.

9. Turn the pillow cover right sides out and insert 16” pillow form.
