Assessment Criteria:

In two skills demonstrations you will be assessed over a broad range of practical skills

and knowledge gained during your course.

You may be assessed on the following skills:

1. Preparation/ tidying up of the classroom

2. Any one of the following tasks:

Assisting children in relation to alighting or boarding a bus

Assisting children when on a school outing

Assisting children when typing or writing

Assisting children with general hygiene

Assisting children in relation to assembly or recreational activities

Accompanying individuals or small groups

During these assessments you will be required to demonstrate specific skills and

aptitudes which are required when working within the special needs environment.

These skills demonstrations should be assessed over a period of time and show the

candidate’s ability to work under supervision and show good working practices at all

times. These skills demonstrations should take place in a special needs setting under

the direction of the supervisor.

All assessments will be monitored and verified by the Academic Office within the

College of Progressive Education before submission for QQI verification.

When each task has been completed you will be expected to write a small report on
