Please switch off your mobile phone. No photography or recording, please.

In accordance with statutory requirements, persons shall not be permitted to stand or sit in any of the gangways. The Academys friendly restaurant, in the basement of the main building, is open to all until 6.00pm on weekdays for healthy and value-for-money meals.

Hire our musicians: You can book the Academys talented student musicians for a wide range of events, including concerts, weddings or corporate functions. For information and to hire Academy performers for your event, please contact the External Bookings Manager, telephone 020 7873 7304 or email [email protected] our website for sample videos:www.ram.ac.uk/hiring-student-performers

Founded in 1822, the Royal Academy of Musics impact on musical life, both in the UK and abroad, is inestimable. The music profession is permeated with Academy alumni, including classical giants Sir Simon Rattle and Sir Harrison Birtwistle and pop stars Sir Elton John and Annie Lennox.

Every year talented young musicians from over fifty countries come to study at the Academy, attracted by renowned teachers and a rich artistic culture that broadens their musical horizons, develops their professional creativity, and fosters their entrepreneurial spirit. Our students benefit from an unrivalled calendar of concerts, operas, musical theatre shows and other events, in which they work regularly with leading practitioners. All these facets of Academy life contribute to what The Guardian has recently described as the Academys cosmopolitan confidence that is in tune with the global music industry. In February 2012 Maxim Vengerov became the latest renowned performer to join the Academys teaching staff: as Menuhin Professor of Music, he will visit every term

to work with students in masterclasses, one-to-one teaching and other events.

The Academys museum is home to one of the worlds most significant collections of instruments and artefacts, including stringed instruments by Stradivari, Guarneri and the Amati family; manuscripts by Purcell, Handel and Vaughan Williams; and an incomparable and growing collection of performing materials that belonged to eminent musicians.

As the Academy approaches its bicentenary it goes from strength to strength. It has recently been rated the best conservatoire for research and the second-highest rated institution in the country for student satisfaction. The Guardian has rated it top of the countrys specialist institutions and, three years in succession, the best place to study music in Britain.

To receive free updates about Academy events by email or by post, please send your name and contact details to [email protected] or call 020 7873 7318.
