What kind of people made the journey West possible?

In 1843 – the great migration began. 1,000 men, women & children travelled to Oregon.

3,200km

Families had covered wagons and joined with other families for safety & guidance.

They got materials and supplies at Indepedendence they used covered wagons, but many items never reached Oregon.

The trail crossed the Rockies through the South Pass. This was 1,600km from Independence. They stopped for repairs at Fort Bridger.

This was one of the most dangerous sections of trail – crossing the Green River before reaching Fort Hall.
