Keynote Speaker: Bill Hughes, PGA Master ProfessionalWe are pleased to announce that Bill Hughes will be returning as Keynote Speaker for the Spring Meeting based on numerous requests and positive feedback from members.

Bill found his passion in life at a young age and has been chasing it ever since. He discovered his love of the game of golf on a public golf course in 1970 near his childhood home in Cur-tice, Ohio and went on to play high school and college golf before moving to South Florida in 1979 to pursue his goal of becoming a PGA Golf Professional. This journey led Bill to posi-tions as Assistant Golf Professional at The Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach, Florida and Pine Tree Golf Club, in Boynton Beach, Florida. Bill became a PGA of America Member in 1984 and PGA Head Golf Professional at Shawnee Country Club in Lima, Ohio. In 1995, he became the 169th member of the illustrious group of PGA Master Professionals.

With a passion for the development and growth of the game for over 40 years, Bill has been significant in the land-scape of junior golf across the United States. He has held Executive Board positions with the Lima Junior Golf Associa-tion, Tennessee Junior Golf Association and currently sits on the foundation boards of the American Junior Golf As-sociation and the North Florida Junior Golf Association. Bill has been recognized by his peers and the PGA of America with the “Junior Golf Leadership” award on more than one occasion. In 2013, he was the recipient of the first annual American Junior Golf Association “General Manager of the Year” Award.

Bill was hired by the PGA TOUR in 1996 to oversee their club operations in Memphis, Tennessee at TPC Southwind, annual host site of the FEDEX St. Jude’s Classic. It was there that he discovered his passion for “giving back”. Through-out his tenures as COO/General Manager at TPC River’s Bend - Cincinnati, Ohio, TPC Craig Ranch - Dallas, Texas and TPC Sawgrass - Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, Bill, supported by the PGA TOUR, has been involved in partnering with many non-profit organizations across the United States raising millions of dollars for charity that truly change and save lives.

In 2013, Bill was recognized by the North Florida PGA with the prestigious “Bill Strausbaugh Award” and the “PGA Professional of the Year Award”. In 2014, Bill Hughes was awarded the PGA of America “Bill Strausbaugh Award” by the North Florida PGA Section for the second time. In 2015, The PGA of America and its 28,000 members and apprentices recognized Bill with the National “Bill Strausbaugh Award” for his passion for mentoring aspiring PGA Professionals and his work with the many non-profit organizations he serves in his community.

In December of 2015, he was conferred a honorary Doctorate Degree from Flagler College for his support of the col-lege and his leadership in St. Johns County. He was inducted into the Clay High School Hall of Fame and Ohio’s Allen County Golf Hall of Fame in 2014.

Bill was promoted by the PGA TOUR in 2017 to Regional Director of TPC Operations and is leading the TPC Network’s diversity, junior golf and cultural enhancement initiatives. He continues to be very involved with many civic and non-profit organizations in the North Florida area including board positions with: Heal Every Autistic Life, North Florida Junior Golf Foundation, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, True Blue benefiting Navy Families, American Junior Golf Association and serves as a past chairman and current board member of the St. Johns County Tourist Develop-ment Council. Bill has also traveled the United States as a Keynote Speaker for various organizations inside and outside the golf industry.
