A Message from the President
Jerry Chiat
I would like to thank everyone for a good year. You mem-
bers show so much energy to not only Paint and Powder but
to the show. This year’s show, Cinema Shtick, was fast
paced, hard work and fun to do! It would not work as well without community
support, sponsors, our charities, Linwood Center and Children’s Playhouse of
Maryland, and above all, the guests who attended. We hope that you appreciat-
ed Rod Clark’s directorial and production skills, his heart and soul, and, as the
show’s writer, his SHTICKY sense of humor!
I want to thank my wonderful wife Eileen for her focus on Paint and Powder. She
is truly a major reason that my term was good. ILY. Here’s to the Paint and Pow-
der Board of Governors for helping with my agenda for this 125th anniversary
year I raise a glass of bubbly to everyone who helped in every way possible to
make this show a success. Here is wishing you all good health, love and peace.
Thank you all again for supporting Paint and Powder. As our anniversary year
comes to an end, I extend best wishes and success to our next President, Mr.
Rod Clark, as he will run the Paint and Powder show... in more ways than one!

Spotlight on...
Dear Paint and Powder Family,
I t is with mixed emotions that I must tell you I will be moving to Austin, Texas in June of this year for
an exciting career opportunity. After a couple years of encouragement, in 2017 my mom Beverly
Winter convinced me to audition for last years show. Before “Kings and Roses,” I had not performed
on stage in 27 years, and what an absolutely wonderful time I had!
In December 2017, Rod called me to ask if I was still living in Maryland. When I said yes, he explained
that he had me in mind for several parts in “Cinema Shtick,” including a murdering woman from “Cell
Block Tango,” a younger woman in “Summer Loving,” and a Hawaiian hula girl. I asked him if he had any-
thing for me where I play a man, and he responded “yes, ‘Men in Tights’!” I’m not sure of the gender of
the magic carpet in the Aladdin number, but it’s 2018, so I can deal with it. The cowboys are all a little bit
off as well.
Exactly 6 years ago, I moved back to my home town of Baltimore after being away for 33 years. I lived in
England twice for 8 years, California twice for 14 years as well as Manhattan, Boston and Delaware. I was
able to move in just a few yards from my best friend, my father Jackson Winter, who
passed away unexpectedly 10 months later. I can say unequivocally that those 10
months, as a result of seemingly negative circumstances, were the greatest gift of my
life. I have always been optimistic at heart, and that was the most concrete evidence
I’ve ever seen that the Universe, or God if you will, always had a new path for you as
long as you keep getting up and doing the right thing.
Now Beverly is moving to Charles Street, right across the street from Scottish Rite.
My son Tarzan, I mean Zachary, will be a junior at LSU, so Austin is considerably clos-
er, driving distance by Texas standards. My 19 year old daughter Mackenzie is also

thriving, but she will stay in Maryland with her mom
to continue college, and hopefully visit me of-
ten. Austin is known for its various music festivals,
and I look forward to Mackenzie’s visit in October
to see Paul McCartney, again!
So circumstances have again aligned for me to make
this move, and I’m excited to discover the new, un-
expected benefits that will go along with my reloca-
tion. They’re sure to reveal themselves in their own
time.
I can’t tell you what a joy it had been to be a part of
Paint and Powder, if only for two years. It’s been
good for my body, mind and soul, and I am privileged
to have made so many new friends. What a terrific
bunch you are!
But perhaps it is not goodbye, but maybe “Till We
Meet Again.” I told Rod that if he could see a way to
create a small part for me in next year’s show, I
would fly in for tech week to participate!
Warmest Regards, and Break a Leg!
Eric Winter

Important....
The Ellicott City Flood
M any thanks to all who reached out to me regarding the
Linwood Boutique and our condition after the flood last
weekend. I am thankful to report that we are one of only
a very few businesses that was spared from the devastation in Old
Ellicott City. Having said that, I don't know what the future of the
Boutique will be. It largely depends on the future of the town.
For now, we are stepping aside while our fellow merchants and the
residents of Old EC sift through the rubble and sort through their
options. In the meantime, we are preparing to have the adults who
worked and trained at the Boutique work out of the mansion on
our school campus.
For those who have asked how to help Linwood, I thank you. We
are fine. As an alternative, I ask you to kindly turn your attention to
the real victims of the flood—the merchants whose livelihoods
were destroyed and the residents who were displaced. Please visit
http://visitoldellicottcity.com/ec-partnership/donate/ to see how
you can help.
Thank you.

Thanks for reading. You are definitely a better person now...
Honor Branch had a malignancy removed from
her forehead/eyebrow area. It is now cancer free.
Honor's Polymyaliga Rheumatica is being treated
with steroids.
Bobbie Bull is home, using a walker or cane to get around. Bobbie
appreciates all the cards, calls and well wishes. She is planning to attend
the show with John Codd.
Harry Davenport continues to keep extremely active and happy. Harry
mentioned the Roebucks have taken up residence at Blakehurst. Charles
has become sightless.
Edward "Lefty" Elliott Jr. was a retired renowned sports coach in
Baltimore. Lefty was renowned for his fame as a coah of high school and
college sports. Lefty also performed with the Paint & Powder Club back in
the day as well as aboard the Bay Lady and the Lady Baltimore. He was a
talented gentleman in all areas. Lefty died March 20, 2018 at Stella
Maris.
“I knew Lefty for many years and saw him in his capacity as a great
basketball coach. He taught and coached at Edmondson High School for
many years. I even bought a hat from him while he had a booth at a local
Flea Market!!” – MarK Schlenoff
Bill Pheil spent 12 days in the hospital. Doctors inserted three stents in
his heart. Bill is recovering at home, and his daughter and son-in-law are
staying with him. Cards and phone calls would be appreciated. 13
Northhampton Road, 21093 - 410-252-6140. Unfortunately, he will be
unable to sing and dance in the Paint & Powder show, but he will be able
to be an encouraging spectator. Bill is doing much better and hoped to
soon return to the remainder of his regular activities. He was definitely in
good spirits, feeling good about his procedures.
Harry and Doris Silverwood were enjoying dinner with Al Long and his
daughter Beverly Geiger. Harry didn't feel well and after discussion
between the two nurses (Doris and Beverly), an ambulance was
summoned. Harry and Doris were whisked away to Johns Hopkins
Hospital. Diagnosis:dehydrated, too much yard work, and last minute tax
prep. Nurse Doris will manage his care and follow up.. Harry was
ordered to rest, however, The Boss is allowing him to participate in the
show on a limited basis. Harry is happy to be there.
Mary Ann Warren is back at Springwell and is doing much better. The
anemia has not reoccurred for now. She has some short term memory
issues and she has severe osteoarthritis in he left hip which limits her
mobility. We hope to get her to the show Saturday night.
