Introduction The 8.0.2 release of the PowerSchool Student Information System (SIS) includes enhancements and resolutions to previously identified issues.

Installation Notes You must be running PowerSchool 7.8.x or greater in order to upgrade to PowerSchool 8.0.2.

The installer setup files for this release are available for download from PowerSource.

If you are upgrading from PowerSchool 8.0.1 or 8.0.1.1 you will need:

Note: Installer changes necessary in this release affect Texas customers and does not require a Database Scripts Updater.

• PowerSchool 8.0.2 Application Installer

If you are upgrading from PowerSchool 8.0 you will need:

• PowerSchool Database Scripts Updater 12.1 (PowerSource > Downloads > PowerSchool Database > PowerSchool Database 12.1)


If you are upgrading from PowerSchool 7.8.x – 7.11.x you will need:

• PowerSchool Database 12.1 Installer (PowerSource > Downloads > PowerSchool Database > PowerSchool Database 12.1)


If you are upgrading from PowerSchool 7.0.x through 7.7.x you will need:

• PowerSchool Database Scripts Updater 11.2 (PowerSource > Downloads > PowerSchool Database > PowerSchool Database 11.2)

• PowerSchool 7.8.0.0 Application Installer

• Once upgraded to PowerSchool 7.8, download and install the Database 12.1 Installer and the 8.0.2 Application Installer.

Note: PowerSchool 8.0.2 does not support upgrading from PowerSchool 6.x. If your district is using PowerSchool 6.x, you must upgrade to PowerSchool 7.0 - 7.8 before upgrading to PowerSchool 8.0.2. For more information, see the Installation Guide for PowerSchool 8.x available on PowerSource. Note: If Schools Interoperability Framework (SIF) is enabled on your system, an update to the latest SIF adapter is required. Consult the latest SIF documentation for information on updating to the latest SIF version.

The PowerSchool Application Installer is available at Support > Downloads > PowerSchool > PowerSchool Installers > PowerSchool 8.0.2 > PowerSchool Application [version] installer.

The PowerSchool Database Installer is available at Support > Downloads > PowerSchool > PowerSchool Database > PowerSchool Database 12.1 > PowerSchool Database [version].

Use the PowerSchool installer to manage your PowerSchool deployment. It installs the database and application for a specific server, and it configures per-server settings such as database and web server ports, passwords, and file paths.

PowerSchool System Requirements If this is the first time you are installing PowerSchool, review the PowerSchool 8.x Hardware and Software Requirements and the Installation Guide for PowerSchool 8.x, available on PowerSource, before installing this version of PowerSchool.

The Hardware and Software Requirements are updated periodically, and contain information on supported software and browser versions for a release. Review this document before installing updates to PowerSchool.

General Recommendation Pearson strongly recommends that you check to make sure Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) is enabled on your PowerSchool server to ensure all data passed between your server and end users/Pearson Technical Support remains secure and private. If SSL is not enabled, data moving between your server and end users is unencrypted. For more information on implementing SSL, see Knowledgebase article 8476 available on PowerSource.

PowerSchool Components PowerSchool is comprised of several software components, each versioned independently from one another. This allows for greater flexibility of component updates as new features and bug fixes become available. Some updates may include dependencies between components. These dependencies will be communicated and built in to the component update installers to prevent PowerSchool from being configured incorrectly.

Resolved Issues General Fixes

Issue Description Custom Field Data Migration Error When migrating user created custom fields, an error appears stating that the retrieval of the

primary key for the core table has failed. This issue is now resolved.

Digital Signing of Installers Compatibility Implemented v2 digital signatures for Mac installers for PowerTeacher Gradebook and ReportWorks. Mac OSX 10.9.5 (Mavericks) will only accept v2 digital signatures. Digital signatures for PowerScheduler will be updated to v2 in a later release this year.

Incident Management Error When attempting to access some incidents on the Incident List, an error message appears and the record does not display. This issue is now resolved.

Language Translation Error When Single Quote is Used

After translating text using the Localization feature, a single quotation mark within the translated text caused an error and a blank page would display when signing in to PowerSchool. This issue is now resolved.

Lead Teacher Change Results in SQL Error

When adding a Lead Teacher to a section, an error appears stating "ORA-00933: SQL Command not properly ended”. This issue is now resolved.

Mobile Apps Unable to Connect to PowerSchool

Mobile app users are unable to connect to the district PowerSchool server due to a log error. This issue is now resolved.

Student Numbers Incorrect on End of Year Validation

When an error occurs on the End-of-Year Validation for a student, the student number is incorrect. This issue is now resolved.

Sync Failures Cause Server to Run Out of Disk Space

If there are issues with CC records that cause DALX-Milan Atomic Sync Failures, the Task Master – Nightly Realign Section Schedules process runs for an extended period of time which results in ARCHIVELOGS buildup that causes PowerSchool to shut down. Turning Atomic Sync off during the Schedule Commit can cause these errors. The Schedule Commit process has been updated to prevent these bad records from being copied to the live side.

Taking Attendance as Substitute Teacher When taking single day attendance in PowerTeacher as a substitute, selecting an attendance code and clicking a student did not populate the selected attendance code for the student. This

Translated Field Names Do Not Work with Student List Options

When using the Student list options, translated field names do not work. This issue is now resolved.

Known Issues The following new known issue was introduced with this release:

During startup of PowerSource/Mobile registration, PowerSchool is unable to successfully complete the process and the environment is not registered. Error messages appear within the PSJ-runtime log at the time of the registration attempt.

Workaround: Go to admin/district/district-registration.html and submit the page to complete the registration. This issue is referenced in Knowledgebase article 72862 available on PowerSource.
