SALES FLOOR OFFICES PARTS CUSTOMER PARKING NEW CAR LOT USED CAR LOT Fire Hydrant Active fire area
THE SCENARIO: Date: April 14th, 2015 Time: 03:19 hours You are dispatched on a single engine response for a car fire at Car Truck & Vehicle Motors at 1234 Main Street, Yourville, WA. 3 minutes after your in route dispatch advised that PD is on-scene reporting numerous vehicles burning and it appears this is an arson fire. Upon arrival you discover 21 vehicles burning in the new car lot and 7 vehicle burning in the used car lot. The fires are a minimum of 100’ from any structures. The first hydrant you come to has been vandalized and unusable (marked with a star). What will you do now?
COMPANY OFFCIER GUIDELINES: Determine initial company actions Develop tactics to include a water resource plan, hose deployment, and initial requests for additional resources What are the inherent risks in this type of incident? What are your primary concerns with this fire? What are your assignments to the next arriving first alarm units?
Arson fires continue to challenge firefighter safety. We must be aware of fire protection
systems being sabotaged, a structure being altered to hamper firefighting efforts or
secondary incidents occurring at our scene. An arson fire of this magnitude often is the
result of environmental terrorists or an insurance fire. Either way firefighter safety is not a
priority for those attempting to gain from this fire.
FIRE GROUND CONSIDERATIONS
Fire Attack
• Did you add additional units? (remember this is originally a single engine response)
• Consider reversing from the edge of the fire area to a hydrant. Keep the apparatus in a
safe location and away from runoff.
• Did you choose 2.5” or 1.75” attack lines? 2.5” gives you plenty of water for this fire but is
far less maneuverable. Would you choose numerous 1.75” attack lines? Would you
consider using a master stream to knock down the main body of fire and then get in
closer with hand lines?
• Which area of fire did you hit first?
• New cars to lessen the $$$ loss
• Used cars where the smaller fire is?
