GEORGIA O’KEEFFE
BIOGRAPHY
She was born the15th of November of 1887 in Wisconsin (United States of America)
She died the 6th of March of 1986
• O’ Keeffe was the second of sevenchildren and the first daughter.
• When she was ten she decided to be anartist.
• She studied at
the School of
the Art Institute
of Chicago from
1905 to 1906.
• She won a prize
for her oil
painting Dead
Rabbit with
Copper Pot.
• Georgia abandoned the idea of a career as an artist in 1908. She did not paint for four years.
• She was inspired to paint again in 1912, inspired by the ideas of Arthur Wesley Dow using line, color and shades.
• She became an art teacher from 1913 to 1918 in Texas.
In 1916, the photographAlfred Stieglitz (whobecome her husband at1924) was interested inher abstract drawings. Ayear later, an exhibitionof her paintings tookplace
• Her most famous paintings are about big flowers, as if they were seen from closed-up. She also painted cow skulls.
• Georgia and Alfred went to México for the first time at 1929, and she found a beautiful place with inspiring landscapes.
• She started adding sky and clouds items at her paintings around 1960.
• Georgia painted around 268 drawings through all her life.
“I realized that I could say things with color and shapes that I could not say any other way, things that
had no words” said Georgia.
