Introduction

The word du'a in Arabic means "calling" - the act of remembering Allah SubhanTa'ala and calling upon Him.

Aside from the daily pray ers, Muslims are encouraged to call upon Allah SubhaTa'ala for forgiv eness, guidance, and strength throughout the day . Muslims capersonal supplications or pray ers (du'a) in their own words, in any language, bare also recommended examples from the Qur'an al kareem and Sunnah.

Once Prophet Muhammad passed by a people who were suffering from

some affliction. "Why don't they make du'a (pray ) to Allah for protection," hesaid. With all the suffering and disasters Muslims are facing in various parts oworld, the question can be directed to all of us today.

It is not that we have forgotten du'a completely; we refer to it regularly. But, oideas and practice regarding dua have become distorted. Often it is reduced tothe level of a ritual. Generally it is considered when all our efforts have failed an act of last resort. It is belittled through actions and sometimes even withwords. Is it any wonder that today mostly a mention of du'a is meant to indicathe hopelessness of a situation.

What a tragedy, for du'a is the most potent weapon of a believer. It can changfate, while no action of ours ever can. It is the essence of ibadah or worship. it we can never fail; without it we can never succeed. In the proper scheme othings, du'a should be the first and the last resort of the believer, with all hisplans and actions coming in between.

Du'a is conversation with Allah, out Creator, our Lord and Master, the AllKnowing, the All Powerful. This act in itself is of extraordinary significance. It ithe most uplifting, liberating, empowering, and transforming conversation aperson can ever have. We turn to Him because we know that He alone can liftsufferings and solve our problems. We feel relieved after describing ourdifficulties to our Creator. We feel empowered after having communicated witthe All Mighty. We sense His mercy all around us after talking to the MostMerciful. We get a new commitment to follow His path for that is the only pathsuccess. We feel blessed with each such commitment.

In every difficulty our first action is du'a, as is our last. We ask Allah to show uthe way to handle that difficulty; we seek His help in following the path He shoto us; we seek His aid in making our efforts successful. When we fall sick, weknow that we cannot find the right doctor without His Will; that the best doctomay not be able to diagnose our condition without His Command; that the bestreatment plan will not succeed without His Permission. We make du'a for all othese. We make du'a before we seek medical help, while we are receiving it aafter it has been delivered. The same is true of all other difficulties we mayencounter.

Du'a is the essence of ibadah. A person engaged in du'a affirms his belief inTawheed (monotheism) and shuns belief in all false gods. With each du'a hisbelief in Allah grows. He beseeches Him, affirming his own powerlessness. Aperson seriously and sincerely engaged in dua understands exactly therelationship between himself and the Creator and affirms it through his actionThat is the essence of worship! Additionally, such a person can never becomearrogant or proud, a logical result of true worship.

Du'a is our most potent weapon in all struggles of life as well as in jihad in thebattlefield. During the battle of Badr, the Prophet Muhammad stood up al

night in prayer seeking Allah's help in the battle between unequal armies thatwould follow the next day. In the decisive battles against the crusaders, SultanSalatuddin Ayyubi was busy day and night. His days were devoted to Jihad. Hisnights were spent making du'a, crying, seeking Allah's help. This was the pracof all true mujahideen.

We should make it a point to make du'a for all things big and small. It is thebeginning of wisdom to realize that big and small are arbitrary labels that aretotally irrelevant in this context. Nothing is too big for Whom we are asking fronothing is too small for the one who is asking. That is why we have been taug



to ask Allah when we need something as small as shoelaces. We should ask abeggar, as a destitute person, for that is what we in reality are in relationshipAllah. At the same time we should ask with great hope and conviction that weshall be granted our prayers. We should remember the Hadith: "There is nothmore dear to Allah than a servant making dua to Him." On the other hand, aprayer lacking concentration and conviction is no prayer at all.

We should make dua at all times, not only during times of distress. The ProphMuhammad said: "Whosoever desires that Allah answers his duas in

unfavorable and difficult conditions, he should make plentiful dua in days of eaand comfort." Also he said: "The person who does not ask from Allah, Allahbecomes angry with him."

We should ask for all of our needs: those related to this world as well as thosrelated to the Hereafter. Those who only concentrate on the former are, in effannouncing that they don't care for their life in the permanent abode. They shblame no body but themselves for the total ruin in that world that Qur'an assuus awaits them. Those who only concentrate on the later are also showing lacbalance, for we need Allah's help to lead a good life here as well.

We should make dua not only for ourselves but also for our parents, brothers sisters, spouses and children, relatives and friends, teachers and otherbenefactors, and destitute and struggling Muslims everywhere. We should prafor them for the good in this world as well as in the Hereafter. The Prophet

said: "The dua of a Muslim for his brother (in Islam) in his absence is readilyaccepted. An angel is appointed to his side. Whenever he makes a beneficial dfor his brother the appointed angel says, 'Aameen. And may you also be blesswith the same.'" [Sahih Muslim]

In the dark ages that we are living in today, everyday brings fresh news aboutatrocities committed against our brothers in Palestine, Kashmir, India,Afghanistan, Iraq, Chechnya, Lebanon and the list goes on. And what do we dWe can continue to just feel frustrated and depressed. We can petition thedetermined perpetrators or a fictional "International Community". We can justforget all this and move on to some other subject. Or we can stand up beforeAllah and pray for His help, who alone can help. The dua can change our life, outlook, and our fate. It is the most potent weapon. But it works only for thosewho try sincerely and seriously to use it.

Dua is conversation with Allah … It is the most uplifting, liberating, empowerinand transforming conversation a person can ever have.

Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu anhu narrates from Rasool-Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala Sallam, "When anyone of you does du'a then don't say "Oh Allah! Forgive me if you w"Have mercy on me if you want", "Give me subsistence if you wish" rather believe comthat HE will do whatever HE wishes. Nobody can force HIM." (Bukhari)

Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu anhu narrates from Rasool-Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala Sallam, "Allah excepts the du'a of a person till the du'a is not related to sin or breakinrelation and until he does not haste in that du'a. The people (May Allah be happy withasked, "Oh Rasool-Allah! What is meant by haste?" He replied, "That the person say again and again but my du'a wasn't accepted and afterwards he becomes hopeless athe du'a. This is called haste." (Muslim)

Hadrat Jabir Radi Allahu anhu narrates from Rasool-Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi w"Don't do Bad-du'a [against] yourself, your wealth, or for your children. May it be theof acceptance in the court of Allah and your Bad-du'a be accepted. (Muslim)

Hadrat Boraidah Radi Allahu anhu narrates that Rasool-Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhSallam, heard a man performing du'a like so, so He said, "He [the man] has performwith the Ism-e-Azam and when Allah is asked through the Ism-e-Azam, Allah grants when du'a is performed with it HE accepts it." (Tirmidhi and Abu Dawood)

Asma binte Yazeed Radi Allahu Anha narrates from Rasool-Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'aSallam, "Ism-e-Azam is in these two ayahs and in the beginning of Ale-Imran . " (TirAbu Dawood)

Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu anhu narrates from Rasool-Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala Sallam, "Saying is dearer to me than this world and all that is in it." (Mislim)

Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu anhu narrates from Rasool-Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala Sallam, "Whoever said hundred times in one day his sins are erased even if they arethe foam of the sea." (Muslim and Bukhari)

Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu anhu narrates from Rasool-Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala Sallam, "Every Prophet had a special du'a which is accepted in the court of Allah. All were in quick in their du'as. On the day of Judgment, for the intercession of my Ummsaved my du'a. My du'a will reach to every person in my ummah, who did not make apartners with Allah. (Muslim)

Etiquette



T he Etiquette of Du'a

The following etiquettes are narrated in the Hadith. For reasons of brev ity , onlyfollowing summary and reference of each Hadith is mentioned instead of the enHadith.

To abstain from haraam food, clothing and earnings. (Muslim : Tirmidhi)

To make Du'a with sincerity . In other words, one should firmly believe that nobAllah Ta'ala will fulfill his objectiv es. (Hakim)

One should perform a good deed prior to making the Du'a & he should mention during the course of the Du'a. For e.g. He should say , O Allah! I had performed deed solely for Y our pleasure. O Allah! accept my Du'a due to the barkat of that(Muslim, Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud).

To make Du'a whilst one is paak & clean. (Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah, NasHibbaan, Mustadrak).

To make wudhu before the Du'a (All six major hadith collections)

To face the Qiblah (All six major hadith collections)

To sit as in the Tashahhud position (Abu Awanah)

To praise Allah Ta'ala at the beginning as well as at the end of Du'a (All six majocollections)

To convey Durood upon the Beloved Prophet Salla Allahu Ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sathe beginning as well as the end. (Abu Dawud, Musnad-e-Ahmad)

To spread out both the hands. (Tirmidhi, Mustadrak)

To raise both the hands up to the shoulders (Abu Dawud, Musnade-Ahmad)

To sit with humility and respect. (Muslim, Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, Abu Dawud)

To mention ones helplessness and dependence. (Tirmidhi)

To abstain from raising the eyes towards the sky whilst making Du'a (Muslim)

To mention the Asma al-Husnaa (the names of Allah Ta'ala ) and the sublime quAllah Ta'ala. (Ibn Hibbaan and Mustadrak)

To abstain from ceremonies rhy ming of the Du'a phrases (Bukhari)

If the Imam is making Du'a, he should not make Du'a for himself only but he shoInclude all the congregants in the Du'a (Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah)

Abu Dawud Radi Allahu anhu : Narrates that Rasulullah Salla Allahu Ta'ala 'alaSallam, said that'' the Imam who makes Du'a for himself only , has betray ed the people." In otherthe Imam should not Make a Du'a that is restricted to him alone. For e.g. He shosay , "O Allah! cure my son." or "O Allah! Return my lost item." etc. but he shouldDu'a that includes all the congregation for e.g. He may say "O Allah! Forgive us mercy upon us."

To make Du'a with firm conv iction (for e.g. he should not say : "O Allah! If you wso and so task of mine." (All six major hadith collections)

To make Du'a with enthusiasm & y earning. (Ibn Hibbn & Abu Awana).

As far as possible endeav our to bring about a "presence of heart and mind" and high hope of the Du'a being accepted. (Haakim)

To make Du'a repeatedly . (Bukhari, Muslim)

This repetition should be at least thrice (Abu Dawud)

Note One may repeat the Du'a thrice in none sitting or he may repeat it on threeoccasions. The "repetition of the Du'a" can be interpreted in both way s."

To make Du'a earnestly and insistently . (Nasai, Hakim, Abu awanah)

To abstain from making Du'a of sev ering family ties or other sins. (Muslim, Tirm

Av oid making Du'as of pre-determined and fixed things (for e.g. woman shoulda du'a of being transformed into a man or a tall person shouldn't make Du'a thuMake me short ." etc) (Nasai).

Don't Make Du'a for impossible things. (Bukhari)

Don't make a Duaa in which you ask Allah Ta'ala to confine His Mercy to yourse(Bukhari, Abu Dawud, Nasai, Ibn Majah)

Ask only Allah Ta'ala alone for all y our needs. Do not depend upon His creation(Tirmidhi/Ibn Hibbaan)

The one making the Du'a as well as the person listening to it, both should say Aathe end. (Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, Nasai)



Rub both hands over the face at the termination of the Du'a (Abu Dawud, TirmiHibbaan, Majah, Hakim)

Don't be impatient over the acceptance of Du'as. In other words, don't say : "I'v eDu'a repeatedly but to no av ail." (Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, Nasai, Ibn Maja

The best times to pray Du'a

There are certain times du'a (supplication) is more likely to be accepted by AllaSubhanahu wa Ta'ala as mentioned by the Most Beloved to Allah Salla Allahu wa 'aalihi wa Sallam. These times are as follows:

T he Last T hird Of T he Night

Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu anhu narrated that Allah’s Messenger Salla A'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam said: 'In the last third of ev ery night our Rabb (Cheand Sustainer) (Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala) descends to the lowermost heav en"Who is calling Me, so that I may answer him? Who is asking Me so that may I grWho is seeking forgiv eness from Me so that I may forgiv e him?."' [Sahih al-BukhHadith Qudsi]

Hadrat Amr ibn Absah narrated that the Most Belov ed Prophet Salla Allahu 'al'aalihi wa Sallam said: 'The closest any worshipper can be to His Lord is duringpart of the night, so if y ou can be amongst those who remember Allah at that timdo so.'[at-Tirmidhi, an-Nasa'i, al-Hakim - Sahih]

Late at night

When people are sleeping and busy with worldly pleasures Allah Subhanahu wgives the believ ers an opportunity , or an answer hour if they can fight sleep andAllah Subhanahu wa ta'ala for whatever they need. The Prophet Salla Allahu 'al'aalihi wa Sallam said: 'There is at night an hour, no Muslim happens to be askinany matter of this world or the Hereafter, except that he will be giv en it, and thi



ev ery night.' [Muslim #7 57 ]

Between Adhan and Iqam ah

Hadrat Anas Radi Allahu anhu narrated that Allah’s Beloved Messenger Salla A'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam said: 'A supplication made between the Adhan andnot rejected.' [Ahmad, abu Dawud #521, at-Tirmidhi #212, Sahih al-Jami #3408, an-Nasai anHibban graded it sahih (sound)]

An Hour On Friday

Narrated Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu anhu : Allah’s Messenger Salla Allahu 'alay'aalihi wa Sallam talked about Friday and said: 'There is an hour on Friday andMuslim gets it while offering Salat (pray er) and asks something from Allah Subhta'ala, then Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala will definitely meet his demand.' And hProphet Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam pointed out the shortness ofparticular time with his hands.[Sahih al-Bukhari]

Some hav e said that this hour is from the time the Imam (pray er’s leader) entermosque on Friday ’s prayer until the prayer is ov er (ie between the two khutbahwhereas others have said that it is the last hour of the day (ie after the Asr praythe Maghrib prayer).

While Drinking Zam zam Water

Hadrat Jaber Radi Allahu anhu narrated that Allah’s Messenger Salla Allahu 'a'aalihi wa Sallam said: 'Zamzam water is for what it is drunk for.' [Ahmad 3: 357Majah #3062]. This means that when y ou drink Zamzam water y ou may ask AllSubhanahu wa ta'ala for anything you like to gain or benefit from this water suhealing from illness.... etc.

While Prostrating

Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu anhu narrated that Allah’s Messenger Salla A'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam, said: 'The nearest a slav e can be to his Lord is wheprostrating, so invoke (supplicate) Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala much in it. [MusDawud, an-Nasa'i and others, Sahih al-Jami #117 5]

When a Muslim is in his Salat (pray er) he is facing Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala ahe prostrates he is the nearest he can be to Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala so it is binv oke Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala at this time. It is said that while in prostratioshould not ask for worldy needs (ie a nice car, a new job, etc), but for the Herea



When Waking Up at Night

Narrated Ubada Bin As-Samit that Allah’s Messenger Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aSallam said: 'Whomever wakes up at night and say s La ilaha illallahu wahdahu lalahu lahulmulku, wa lahul hamdu, wa huwa ala kulli shai'in qadir. Alhamdu lillahsubhanallahi wa la ilaha illallahu, wallah akbir, wa la hawla wala quwata illa billahas the right to be worshipped but Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala He is the only onno partners. His is the kingdom and all the praises are for Allah Subhanahu wa the glories are for Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala And none has the right to be worbut Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala and Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala is the most Greathere is neither might nor power except with Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala and thAllahumma ighfir li (O Allah! Forgive me) or inv okes Allah Subhanahu wa ta'albe responded to and if he makes ablution and performs Salat (pray er), his Salatwill be accepted. [Sahih al-Bukhari]

At T he End Of T he Obligatory Salat:

Narrated Abu Omamah Radi Allahu anhu : that Allah’s Belov ed Messenger Salla'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam was asked, O Messenger of Allah, which supplicatiheard (by Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala, he said the end of the night and at the enobligatory Salat (prayer) [at-Tirmidhi]. This time is after say ing 'At-tahyat' , andmaking Tasleem (finishing pray er).

T he Night Of 'Qadr' (Decree)

This night is the greatest night of the y ear. This is the night which the almighty ASubhanahu wa ta'ala said about it, "The night of Al-Qadar (Decree) is better thathousand months." [Surah al-Qadr, 97 : 3]

The Night of Decree is one of the odd nights of the last ten nights of the blessed mRamadan. The angels descend down to the earth, and the earth is ov erwhelmedpeace and serenity until the break of dawn and when he doors of Paradise are oworshipper is encouraged to turn to Allah to ask for his needs for this world andHereafter.

During T he Rain

Narrated Sahel Ibn Sa'ad Radi Allahu anhu: that the Most Beloved Messenger oSalla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam said: 'Two will not be rejected, Suppliwhen the Adhan (call of prayer) is being called, and at the time of the rain'. [Al-H114, and Abu Dawud #2540, ibn Majah]

T he One Who Is Suffering Injustice and Opression

The Belov ed Messenger of Allah Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam said Ibn Jabal (RA), 'Beware of the supplication of the unjustly treated, because thershelter or veil between it (the supplication of the one who is suffering injustice)Subhanahu wa ta'ala' [Sahih Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

The Belov ed Messenger Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam declared, 'Thwhose du'a is nev er rejected (by Allah) are: the fasting person until he breaks hianother narration, when he breaks fast), the just ruler and the one who isoppressed.'[Ahmad, at-Tirmidhi - Hasan]

In another hadith; The Beloved Messenger Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sdeclared: 'Three du'as are surely answered: The du'a of the oppressed, the du'a otrav eler, and the du'a of the father/mother (upon their child)'. The One who is sinjustice is heard by Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala when he inv okes Allah Subhanta'ala to retain his rights from the unjust one or oppressor. Allah Subhanahu whas sworn to help the one who is suffering from injustice sooner or later as the Mof Allah Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam said.

T he T raveller

The Most Beloved of Allah Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam said; Thresupplications will not be rejected (by Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala), the supplicaparent for his child, the supplication of the one who is fasting, and the supplicattrav eler. [al-Bayhaqi, at-Tirmidhi - Sahih]

During travel supplication is heard by Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala if the trip is freason, but if the trip is for a bad intention or to perform illegal things (making will not apply to it.



T he Parent's Supplication for their Child

The Belov ed Messenger of Allah Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam said;supplications will not be rejected (by Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala), the supplicaparent for his child, the supplication of the one who is fasting, and the supplicattrav eler. [al-Bayhaqi, at-Tirmidhi - Sahih]

Du'a after praising Allah and giving salat on the Beloved Prophet Sall'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam in the tashahhud at the end of salat.

Narrated Faddalah ibn Ubay d Radi Allahu anhu: that the Messenger of Allah Sa'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam said: 'When anyone of you makes du'a, let him starglorify ing his Lord and praising Him, then let him send blessings upon the PropAllahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam, then let him pray for whatev er he wants' [Dawud #1481, at-Tirmidhi #347 7 ]

In another hadith; Baqiy ibn Mukhallid Radi Allahu anhu narrated that that theMessenger of Allah Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam said: 'Ev ery du'a iresponded to until one sends blessings upon the Prophet Salla Allahu 'alayhi wwa Sallam' [al-Bay haqi]

In another hadith; Hadrat Umar Radi Allahu ta'ala anhu narrated that the MosProphet Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam said: 'Du'a is detained betweeheav ens and the earth and no part of it is taken up until y ou send blessings uponBelov ed Prophet Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam' [at-Tirmidhi #486]

Ibrahim ibn Adham - may Allah hav e mercy on him - a third century scholar, aand a companion of Sufy an ath-Thawri, was asked about the say ing of Allah - thHigh:

"and your Lord says: "Call on me I will answer your prayer..." [al Qur'an 40:60]

"We supplicate and we are not answered."

So he said to them:

Y ou know Allah, Y et you do not obey Him,

Y ou recite the Qur'an, Y et do not act according to it,

Y ou know Shaitan, Y et y ou have agreed with him,

Y ou proclaim that y ou lov e Muhammad Y et y ou abandon his Sunnah,

Y ou proclaim y our love for Paradise, Y et y ou do not act to gain it,

Y ou proclaim y our fear the Fire, Y et y ou do not prevent y ourselv es from sins,

Y ou say "Indeed death is true", Y et y ou hav e not prepared for it,

Y ou point out the faults with others, Y et y ou do not look at y our faults,

Y ou eat of that which Allah has prov ided for y ou, Y et you do not thank Him,

Y ou bury y our dead, Y et you do not take a lesson from it."

At the time of pouring water in Nostrils :

Allah humma arihni ra-ehatal jannati wa anta anni radhin



'' O Allah ! Comfort me with the smells of Heaven, and under the circumstanThou art pleased with me ''

While Snuffing y our Nose :

Allah humma aoozubika min rawaa-ihin nari wamin soo-iddari

'' O Allah! I seek refuge in Thee from the smell of the fire (of hell) and from theof the abode ''

While washing the Face :

Allah humma bayyidh waj hi yauma tabyadh-dhu wu juhu auliaika wala tuwajhi yauma taswaddu wu juho aadaaika

'' O Allah! Brighten my face on the day when Thou wouldst brighten the facewho are dear to Thee, and do not blacken my face on the day when Thou w

While washing Right hand to the Elbow :

Allah humma aatini kitabi bi yamini wa hasibni hisabanyyaseera

'' O Allah! Give me the record of my deeds in my right hand and subject me tojudgment ''

While washing the Left Hand to the Elbow :

Allah humma inni aoozobika an tutiyayani kitabi bi shamli aumin wara-I Z

'' O Allah! I seek refuge in Thee that I may be given the record of my deeds inhand or from behind my back ''

While wiping Head :

'' O Allah! give me the shade of shelter under Thy Throne, on the day when theno shade other than the shade of Thy throne ''

While wiping the Ears :

Allah hummaj alni minai lazeena yas tami-u-nal qaula fa yattabi-ona ahsaAllah humma asmini munadiyal jannati ma al abrar

'' O Allah! make me as one of those who listen to an utterance and follow whait.

While wiping Neck :

Allah humma fukka raqabati minan nari wa aoozobika minas salasili wal a

'' O' Allah! take my neck off from the hell-fire and I seek Thy refuge from the feshackles ''

While washing Right Foot :

Allah humma sabbit qadamayya ala siratikal mustaeem

'' O Allah! let my feet stick to the right path ''

While washing left Foot :

Allah humma inni aoozobika an tazilla qadamayya alas sirati yauma tazillu amunafiqeena finnar

'' O' Allah! I seek Thy refuge that my feet slip on the bridge on the day when tthe hypocrites slip in Hell ''



At the end of Wudhu :

Istikhara

Concerning the ritual pray er for guidance in choosing the best option [Salat al-Iand the pray er of supplication [du'a] appropiate to it.

According to a traditional report transmitted on the authority of Muhammad ibMunkadir, it was Jabir ibn 'Abdi'llah (may Allah be well pleased with him and wifather) who said:



"Allah's Messenger (Allah bless him and give him peace) used to teach us howguidance in choosing the best option available in a practical enterprise [al-ist'l-amr], just as he would sometimes teach us a Chapter [Sura] from the Qur'an.

"'If one of you is concerned about some practical undertaking, or about makinfor a journey, he should perform two cycles of ritual prayer [rak'atain], not asobligatory observance [farida], but voluntarily. Then he should say:

'"O Allah, I ask Y ou to show me what is best, through Y our knowledge, and I aempower me, through Y our power, and I beg Y ou to grant me Y our tremendofor Y ou have power, while I am without power, and Y ou have knowledge, whwithout knowledge, and Y ou are the One who knows all things invisible.

Allahumma inni astakhiru-ka bi-'ilmi-ka wa astaqdiru-ka bi-qudrati-ka wa amin fadli-ka 'l-'azim fa-inna-ka taqdiru wa la aqdiru wa ta'lamu wa la a'lamu

'Allamu 'l-ghuyub :

O Allah, if Y ou know that this undertaking is in the best interests of my religioin this world, and my life in the Hereafter, and can yield successful results in

short term and the long term, then make it possible for me and make it easy fothen bless me in it.

Allahumma in kunta ta'lamu anna hadha 'l-amra khairun li fi dini wa dunyakhirati wa 'aqibati amri wa 'ajili-hi wa ajili-h :fa-'qdir-hu li wa yassir-hu li

The time for the intention (Niy yat) for fasting begins any time after sunset until Intention is obligatory and it is Sunnat to recite it v erbally each day . Ev en if theis made before midday the fast will be v alid. Recite Durood Shareef before and amaking the intention.

Iftaar : Intention

Niyy at : Intention for breaking fasting [Iftaar] :-

To make haste in breaking the fast is Sunnat and a means of obtaining blessing frAlmighty . One should break ones fast when one thinks the sun has set. Howev ermust not be too hasty on an overcast day . Iftaar should be made before performMaghrib Salah.

Iftaar should be made with dates and if this is not av ailable, with water. After Ifshould not waste unnecessary time eating and delay the Maghrib Salah. Men shmiss the Jama'at (congregation) because of eating.

Du'a for ending the Fast :

At the time of Iftaar read the following du'a :

Allah Humma inni Laka Soom-Tu wah Bikka aa-Mantu wa-Ilayka Tawak' Wah Ala Rizke-Ka Af-Tar-tu Fahtaqab al-Minnee

"Oh Allah I have fasted for Y ou, believed in Y ou, relied on Y ou, and withsustenance i break it. Therefore forgive me my past and future sins."

All Glory and Perfection is due to Allah athe Lord's Might, Greatness, Reverence, Power, Majesty and Omnipotence fromdefects. All Glory and Perfection belong to Him and Free is He the Sovereign wnot sleep neither die from all defects. He is verily the all Gracious and the mostall perfect, the Lord of the Spirit and Angels. O Allah! Thou knowest that which I keep secret and that which I disclose. Grapardon. Thou knowest my needs; grant me my wishes. Thou knowest that whmy breast; forgive me my sins. O Allah! I seek from Thee a faith that will saturheart, and a true conviction that will make me realize that naught can befall mwhat Thou hast decreed for me, and that I may find contentment in whatever given me. Thou art my patron in this world and the Hereafter. Allow me to dieof Islam and to be counted among the righteous. O Allah! on this occasion of opresence in this place, let not any of our sins go unforgiven, nor any of our woundispelled, nor any of our needs unfulfilled or unfacilitated by Thee. And let atasks be made easy, and our minds relieved, and our hearts illuminated and oujudged as pious. O Allah! allow us to die as Muslims and to join the ranks of thewithout any distress. Amen, O Lord of the Universe.



(c) Pray er at Multazam

O Allah! Lord of this Ancient House, free our necks and the necks of our fathersmothers and brothers and children from the fires of Hell. O Thou who art MastBeneficence, Benignity, Grace, Bounty, Munificence and Benevolence! O Allah!final result of all our affairs be good, and protect us from degradation in this weternal doom in the Hereafter. O Allah! truly I am Thy slave and the son of Thystanding beneath Thy door and holding to Thy threshold in humility before Thfor Thy Mercy and I fear Thy punishment in Hell. O The Eternally Beneficent! Oask Thee to accept my remembrance of Thee, and relieve me of my burdens, anright my affairs, and purify my heart, and illuminate my grave for me and forgmy sins. And I beseech of Thee high ranks in Paradise. Amin.

(d) Pray ers of T awaf

The pray ers usually recited during Tawaf of the Kabah are giv en below:

(i) First Shawt (i.e., Circuit)



All Glory is to Allah! All Praise is to Allah! There is none worthy of worship buAllah is the Greatest. There is no power, nor strength except that from Allah, THigh, The Greatest! Blessings and Peace be upon the Beloved Prophet of Allah,Muhammad (pbuh). O Allah! By my faith in Thee, and by my belief in Thy Bookfulfillment of the vows I made to Thee, and following the Sunnah of Thy BeloveProphet, Muhammad (pbuh), (I perform the Tawaf of the Holy Kabah). O Allahask Thy forgiveness, and Thy protection, and everlasting soundness in faith inworld and in the Hereafter , and that I be granted Paradise and be freed from tHell.

Our Lord! Grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and save us frchastisement of fire, and allow us to enter Paradise with the righteous ones. OOne! O All Forgiving! O Lord of the Universe!

(11) Second Shawt (i.e., Circuit)



O Allah! This House is Thy House, and this Sanctuary is Thy Sanctuary, and thiis Thy Security, and this slave is Thy slave. I am Thy slave and the son of Thy sthis place is a refuge from the fires of Hell for him who seeks Thy protection. Foflesh and our bodies to the Fire. O Allah! Endear to us the Faith, and adorn withearts, and make hateful to us disbelief, wickedness and transgression, and cabe among those who are rightly guided.

O Allah! Protect me from Thy punishment on the Day when thou shalt resurrecslaves. O Allah! Allow me to enter Paradise without any accounting.


(iii) T hird Shawt (i.e., Circuit)

O Allah! Truly, I seek refuge in Thee from doubt and from associating with The(in worship), and from discord, hypocrisy, and immorality, and from returninsee my family and my children in an evil state of affairs. O Allah! Truly I ask Th



Thy pleasure and that I be allowed to enter Paradise. And I take refuge in TheThy anger and from the fire of Hell. O Allah! I seek refuge in Thee from falling fgrace in my grave and from the temptations in this life and trials at the time of


(iv) Fourth Shawt (i.e., Circuit)

O Allah! Allow this pilgrimage to be accepted, and this endeavor to be rewardmy sins to be forgiven , and my good deeds to be approved and cause my busiflourish; O Thou, who knoweth all that is in our hearts! O Allah! Take me out ofinto light. O Allah! I ask thee, that I be worthy of Thy Mercy, and certain of ThForgiveness, and immune to all sins, and be worthy of rewards for all my virtube worthy of entering Paradise and be immune from Hell. O My lord! Make mewith what Thou hast bestowed upon me. And let Thy Blessings be with what Tgiven me. And compensate all that I lack with Thy own favor.


(v) Fifth Shawt (i.e., Circuit)



O Allah! Bestow upon me the shade of Thy Throne on the Day when there shall bshade except Thine, and there shall be no countenance except Thine. And allowdrink from the cistern of Thy Belov ed Prophet, Hadrat Muhammad (pbuh)- a drpleasant that it may quench my thirst for ev er. O Allah! I ask Thee the best of thThy Beloved Prophet, our Master Muhammad (pbuh) has asked of Thee. And I srefuge in Thee from the ev ils from which Thy Belov ed Prophet, our Master, Muh(pbuh) has sought refuge in Thee. O Allah! Truly I beseech Thee to grant me Parits delights and whatever may bring me nearer to it whether by word, or by actdeed. And I seek refuge in Thee from the fires of Hell and whatev er may bring mto it whether by word, or by act or by deed.

Our Lord! Grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and sav e us frochastisement of fire, and allow us to enter Paradise with the righteous ones. O GOne! O All Forgiv ing! O Lord of the Universe!

(vi) Sixth Shawt (i.e., Circuit)



O Allah! Thou hast many claims on me in my relations to Thee, and many claimrelations to Thy creatures. O Allah! release me of those which I owe to Thee, ame the strength to bear those which I owe to Thy creatures. Make me contentwhat Thou hast made lawful and enable me to reject what Thou hast declaredforbidden. And make me content with obedience to Thee, and let me beware ofdisobedience. And make me content with Thy favor so that I may not seek favany one else, O Thou, whose Mercy is All Embracing. O Allah! Truly Thy houseGlorious and Thy Countenance Benign, and Thou, O Allah! art Clement, Noble Thou lovest forgiveness, so forgive me.


(vii) Seventh Shawt (i.e., Circuit)

O Allah! I seek from Thee a faith that is perfect, a conviction that is true, a heafull of devotion towards Thee, and a tongue that is forever engaged in Thyremembrance; and provisions that are vast, lawful and clean, and a repentansincere; a repentance before death, peace at the time of death and Thy BenignForgiveness and Mercy after death, and Thy Pardon at the time of reckoning, a



reward of Paradise and a reprieve from the fires of Hell. Accept my prayers O Mighty One! O The Forgiver! O My Lord! Increase me in my knowledge and macounted among the righteous.

Rajab

There is a big reward for sadaqa and charity in the month of Rajab. Those who cannogive sadaqa to the poor every day, or recite:

'Subhana Ilalahil Jaleele Subhana Man la Yanbaghil Tasbeeho Illa Lahoo; Subhanal A'azzinil Akrame; Subhana Man Labisal Izza wa Howa Lahoo Ahlun

Repeating 'Laa ilaaha illa-Allah' 1000 times.

Repeating 'Astaghfirullaaha zul jalale wal Ik raam min jamee' al zonoobe wal a1000 times.

Repeating Sura Al Tawheed 'Qul-ho-wallahu Ahad' 1000 times to get the rewaAngels and blessings on the reciter, his / her children, family and neighbours.

It is recommended to recite 'Qul-ho-wallahu Ahad' 100 times every Friday in thRajab.

May Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala) grant you more blessings in this month anmonth to do more for the real future in the Akhirah.

Y aa Dhut Tawli wal in'aam.

Laa ilaahi illaa anta Dhahrul laajeena wal jaarul Mustajeereen.

Wa amaanul Khaa-e-feen.

Allahumma in kunta katabtanee 'indaka fee Ummil Kitaabi shaqiyyan aw maaw matroodan aw muqattaran 'alayya fir rizqi famh.

Allahumma bifadhlika shaqawatee wa hirmanee wa tardee waqtitaara rizqeewathbitnee 'indaka fee Ummil Kitaabi sa'eedam marzooqam muwaffaqan lil k

Fa innaka qulta wah qawlukal haqqu fee kitaabikal munazzali 'alaa lisaani NaMursal.

Wa anta bihee 'alam.

Inaka antal A'azul Akram .

Wa Sall Allahu ta 'alaa 'Alaa Sayyidinaa Muhammadiw Wa 'alaa Alihi wa Sahwa Sallam.

Wal Hamdulillahi Rabbil 'Aalameen.

Stress & anxiety

There are many du’as, and surahs that can be read to help y ou when feeling strand in anxiety . Some of the recommended ones are:



‘Laa hawla wa laa kuwwata illaa billaahil ‘aliyyil ‘azim’

Or y ou can pray :

‘subhaanal laahi wa bihamdi hi subhaanal lahil ‘azim wa bihamdihi astaghfiru‘laa ilaaha illa anta subhaanaka inni kuntu minaz zaalimin’

All the abov e are proven to hav e benefits from v arious ahadith. I suggest you rof the abov e dua's at times of need until the fear or anxiety has been erased.

Additionally in 'Hisn-e-hasin' the following dua has been related when one is feestressful:

‘allahumma rahmataka arju falaa takilni ilaa nafsi tarfata ‘ayniw wa aslih kullahu laa ilaaha illaa anta’

Confused

This supplication (du'a'), is mostly read when you do not know what to do, or aconfused, or depressed.

Losing temper/feeling down [2]

When one is feeling down , or loses their tem per, one should suddenly reci'Darood Shareef'. There are numerous 'Darood Shareefs' that can be learned anfor example:

'Allahumma salle 'ala Sayyadina wa Mawlana Muhammadiw wa 'ala aale Sawa Mawlana Muhammadiw wa barik wa sallim'

This is a common 'Darood Shareef', which almost ev ery one knows, and may be rany state.

At the time of anger pray the following Du'a :

Aoozubillahe minash-shaitanir rajeem

I take refuge in Allah from the Satan outcast

For the Expiation of Sins (of the tongue) committed in an assembly :

Subhanal-lahe wa be hamdehi subhana kalla humma wa be hamdika ash-hailaha illa anta astagfiruka wa atoobu ilaika

When in fear, recite:

‘allaahumma innaa naj’aluka fi nuhurihim wa na’udhu bika min shururi



Mishqaat Shareef prov es the excellence of this du’a:

‘Y aa hayyu yaa qayyumu bi rahmatika astaghith’

Scared child

Du'a for when a child is scared. Simply recite.

'Wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billahil 'aliyil 'azim '

He should recite as many times as possible during the day , but it isn't limited tochildren. It has many adv antages, and benefits, which are good for this world, aHereafter, especially if it has come from the ennobled mouth, of the Most BelovMessenger of Allah (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam).

It would also help if the child learnt the kalimah shareef and started practising hwith the adults of the home.

For the heart:

By reciting 'Darood Shareef' elev en times, before and after this du'a, and by strochest afterwards, will give you relief from all chesty/hearty problems insha'Alla

When you are suffering from diabetes:

''innahu 'alaa raj'ihi la Qadir'

By reciting this du'a at a fixed time everyday , but before y ou do, to recite the 'DShareef' eleven times at the beginning, and then to recite the abov e v erse once,Surah called 'wal 'aadiyaati dabhann'. Insha'Allah, all your problems for diabeterid of.

To ease pain



One may recite this du'a, to ease and free one from any pain that he/she may be:

Allahumma la sahla illa ma ja-althau sahlan wa anta taja-lul hazna sahlan iz

O Allah ! There is nothing easy except what thou so maketh and Thou maketh theasy , whatsoev er Thou liketh

Or y ou can pray the following :

'Alhamdo lillahi aafaani mimab talaak allahu bi hi wa faddalani 'alaa kathirimkhalaqa tafdhila'

Whoever recites this du'a with conv iction whenever they see a person with a dithen Allah the Almighty shall preserv e him from such a disease, Insha'Allah.

Hardship/Difficulty

If y ou ev er see someone who is in hardship/difficulty /illness, : Then the followican be recited:

'Alhamdu lillahil ladhi 'aafaani mimmab talaaka bihi wa fadhalani 'alaa kamimman khalaqa tafdhila.'



The good thing about this du'a is that the difficulty/hardship/illness shall be erathis du'a is recited.

A du'a for all illnesses, which are difficult to get rid of can be recited by pray ingFatihah forty -one times, between the Fajr 2 rak'ah sunnahs and 2 rak'ah fard prato blow upon the face of the ill person, shall Insha'Allah get rid of whatev er illneperson carries.

Hair Loss

This du'a should be read in odd numbers, as many times as you wish, with this ithat the more you pray it, the more effectiv e it will be, and that y ou must also cpray your fiv e times salah, and other ritual practices as prescribed. The du'a is

'Y a munazzilash shafa'i wa mudh'hibadh da'i anzil 'ala maabhi min da'inn sh

Y ou may also recite this 3 times ov er hair oil, and make 'damm' upon the oil, beapply ing it to the hair. Similarly , you may recite:

'Allahu al-Bari'u al-Kabiru'

This is for the loss of hair and should be recited 313 times after every salah, aft'damm' should be made on the hair'.

Good Eyesight

In order to maximise the limit of the ey esight, and to rid any pain of the eye, thpart of the Qur'an al kareem that can be recited, and 'dumm' (blowing) be made.

That supplication is:

'Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem, farji'il basara hal tara min futur, thummar ji'karratayni yanqalibu ilaykal basaru khasi'aww wa huwa hasir, wa iyyakad kafaru la yudhliquna ka bi absari him lamma sami'udh dhikra wa yaquluna i

majnunun, wa ma huwa illa dhikrul lil 'alamin'

Remember, that all methods of 'dumm' or 'wazifah' always relate, directly to thAllah the Almighty (Qur'an al kareem), and that there is no other word, that canThere is a 'Durood Shareef' known as 'Durood-e-Shifa', which can be recited upocollorium (surmah), and then be worn, and is very effective.

That 'Durood-e-Shifa' is:

'Allahumma salle wa sallim wa barik 'ala syedina wa mawlana Muhammadqulubi wa dawa'iha wa 'afiyatil abadaani wa shifa'iha wa nuril absari wa dhi

aali hi wa sahbi hi da'imann abada'.

In order to gain the v ision of the eyes back to thier original position, someone aHadrat Mujaddid-e-Din-o-Millat, Mawlana Shah Ahmad Rida Khan (Rehmatullathat how can I restore my v ision?

He gav e the following adv ice:

'Learn the 'Ayat al Kursi', after ev ery salaah, recite this once, when y ou reach t'wa la' ya'udu hu hifzu huma', place your fingers upon your eyes, and recite thewords elev en times, then blow on your fingers and wipe them on y our ey es.' Threstore any lost v ision that one may hav e, in the ey es.

Disobedient marriage partner

Although there are many deeds (a'mal) that can be done in order to make the hlisten to the wife, especially in cases where, the husband is disobedient, neverthwife should pray her fiv e times salaah, and sincerely make du'a to Allah the Almbring the husband back onto the straight path.

The Nad-e-'Ali, which is a v ery powerful recitation can be recited 47 times, afone may blow on their hands, and wipe it all ov er their body , which will create between a husband and wife, and whomsoever the reciter will talk to, will then bobedient.

The Nad-e-'Ali is:

'Bismillah hir Rahmanir Rahim, Nad-e-'Aliyyin mazharal 'Aja'ibi tajid hu 'awnnawa'ibi kullu hammiw wa ghammin sayanjali bi nabuwwati ka Y a Rasul Al

wilaayati ka Y a 'Aliyu ya 'Aliyu ya 'Aliyu'

It is expected that when one start's acting upon this, that they do not stop, untiquietly confident that what they intended for, has been achiev ed.

Childless couple



Sometimes it maybe that Allah the Almighty , has not destined a certain couple children together, therefore they cant have children. Nevertheless, no matter hone person tries, they can never change the will of Allah the Almighty .

There is a du'a y ou can pray its called Du'a-e-Zakariyy a (alayhi asalam) :

''Rabbi laa tadharni fardan wa anta khayr ul-waaritheen''

(O m y Lord! Leave m e not single (childless), though You are the Beinheritors)

And you may also pray :

“Rabbi hab li m in ladunka dhurriyyatan tayyibatan innaka samdu’aa’

(O m y Lord! Grant m e from You a good offspring. You are indeed tHearer of invocation)

The best thing to do is to become close to Allah the Almighty , by pray ing five tisalaah, and pray ing the Qur'an al kareem, and being conscious of the fact that AAlmighty has given us ev ery thing else, and He will eventually give us a child ashav e belief in His power (qudrah), is something which previous Prophets (alay hsalam) hav e had. This will then become a Sunnah of theirs which will become evv irtuous.

May Allah the Alm ighty help us all and give us patience, when needem ost, and m ay He fulfill all of our supplications, that we m ake, for Hpleasure. (Am in)

Good pious children



Children should be taught all the du'as from an early age. If they can recite, thenshould know the 'First Kalimah', they should be told to recite this often, as it is 'afdhal udh dhikr'. They should know all the six Kalimahs including 'Iman-e-Muand 'Iman-e-Mujmal'.

They should know du'as which would increase their knowledge, and one such d

'rabbi zidni 'ilmann'

'Increase my knowledge, my Lord'

One should try to make the children pray five times Salaah, every day , so that tinto the habit of it, when they are older. Similarly , they should be told to recitev erses of the Qur'an al kareem ev ery day , so that they do not distant themselve

Where one feels that they are not receiv ing enough income, and that they are nable to pass by in their ev ery day liv ing then a good wazifah' to recite for the prsustenance is also stated in the Qur'an al kareem.

It is as follows:

'Wallaho khayrur Raziqin'

'And Allah the Almighty is the best provider of sustenance'

If one were to recite, the abov e v erse, as many times as they could each day , thPower of Allah the Almighty , and the Qur'an al-Hakeem, they shall begin to notidifference in their income, or theirself.



Y ou shall either be content (qana'ah) with what you are gaining, which is a goocharacteristic to recieve, or Allah the Almighty will make prov ision for yourimprovement. (Amin)

In addition to this, you should also be firm on y our five times salaah, because ttimes salaah, carries so much benefits for this world, and the hereafter, that y oube able to imagine.

Here are some benefits of Du'a-e-Jam eelah :

One who recites it after Salaat al Fajr gets credit of three hundred pilgrimages; that of Hadrat Adam alayhis salaam.

One who recites it after Salaat al Duhar gets credit of fiv e hundred pilgrimages;that of Hadrat Ibrahim alayhis salaam.

One who recites it after Salaat al Asr gets credit of One hundred pilgrimages; eqthat of Hadrat Y unus alayhis salaam.

One who recites it after Salaat al Isha gets credit of One Thousand pilgrimages; that of Hadrat Musa alayhis salaam.

And One who recites this after Salaat al Tahajjud gets credit of one lakh PilgrimEqual to that of The Most Belov ed Prophet Muhammed (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alaSallam)

Reciting Du'a-e-Jam eelah : T hawaab of 100,000 Hajj



A person who recites Du'a-e-Jameelah after Tahajjud pray ers, then Allah Ta 'alahim reward equiv alent to Hadrat Mohammad (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Saperforming 100,000 Hajj, and in addition the reward for reciting the Qur'an al k1000 times, releasing 1 ,000 slav es and feeding 1 ,000 hungry and thirsty peopis lesser but substantial reward for reciting this Du'a after Fajr, Zuhr, Asr, MaghIsha prayers. It must be remembered the reward would be of Maqbool Hajj, as reward is of Hajj performed by the Belov ed Prophet (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhiSallam) and secondly , reciting this Du'a in Ramadhan multiplies the reward maThis Du'a is found in most Panj Surahs.

Du'a by Imam Al-GhazaliRehmatullahi ta'ala alaih

O Allah , of Grace I ask Y ou its perfection;

and of protection its duration;

and of mercy its completion;

and of health its attainment.

Of liv elihood, I ask its comfort;

and of life its happiness;

and of v irtue its completion;

and of blessings its totality ;

and of graciousness its sweetness;

and of benev olence the nearest.

O Allah, terminate with happiness our final end

and fulfil for us our hopes beyond expectations.

Join with well-being and good health

our early mornings and dusky evenings,

and set Y our mercy as our final end and outcome.



Pour the abundance of Y our Forgiv eness

upon our sins, and fav our us with the

remov al of our faults.

Give us piety as a prov ision and place

our efforts in the strengthening

of Y our Religion.

In Y ou is our trust and upon Y ou our dependence.

O Allah, strengthen us on the road of sincerity

and righteousness and protect us

in this world from that which will be cause

for regret on the Final Day .

Lighten for us the burden of our sins

and bestow upon us the blessings of those

who liv e a life of Righteousness,

and be sufficient for us and avert

from us the ev ils of those who do ev il.

Free us and free our fathers and our mothers

and our teachers from the fire of hell by

the grace of Y our Mercy .

O Most Mighty , Most Merciful, Most Generous;

the Veiler (of faults), the Gentle One, the Potent.

O Allah... O Allah... O Allah... O Allah...

O Merciful... O Merciful... O Merciful...

O most Merciful of the Merciful...

the First of the First and the Last of the Last.

The Possessor of unshakable Power.

The most Compassionate to the poor

and the destitute.

O most Merciful of the Merciful.



"There is no God except Y ou.

Glory be to Y ou. Indeed I am amongst

those who hav e done wrong" (surah Anbiya :87 )

May the blessings of Allah be upon Muhammmad,

his family and all of his companions.

And praise belongs to Allah alone, Lord of the worlds.

Troubles, afflictions & hardships

Du'a from the Qur'an al kareem:

'Wa nunazzilu minal Qur'ani ma huwa shifaa'uw wa Rahamatul lil mu'm

'And we send in the Qur'an, that which is healing, and a m ercy tobelievers, and it adds loss only to the unjust'

(al Qur'an; 17 ;82)

If a person obey 's what Allah the Almighty has ordered and commanded him toas pray the fiv e times salah, recite the Qur'an al kareem, obey his/her parents aelderly , seek the knowledge of his religion, and hav e good character, in the waybelov ed Messenger Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam has told us to hav e, thmatter how great a calamity befalls a believ er, he will take it like a pinch of salt!

Here are a few recitations one can perform, once he fulfils his duties to Allah thAlmighty first.



To read the Darood Shareef eleven times before & after reciting:

'Ammay yujibul mudtarra idha da'aho wa yakshifus su'a'

'Who is it which reaches the cry of the destitute, and rids all hard

(Surah an Naml : 62)

This can be recited 500 times after the Isha' salah every day , for 40 day s. Inshy ou will be eased of y our difficulty .

The right marriage partner

The most important wazifah, or du'a, that a person can do, for any worldly gaingaining in the akhira, is to pray the fiv e times salaah, and make as much recitatQur'an al kareem, as possible.

It is only when y ou start doing this, that other du'as, will start to hav e a positivOtherwise it is no use, as what good is a ceiling when there are no walls, or whatroof, when there are no foundations. Howev er in finding the right spouse, the fov ery useful:

'Subhan alladhi khalaqal azwaja kullaha mimma tumbitul ardu wa min anfusmimma la ya'lamun'

'Pure is He who has m ade all pairs of what the earth grows, and ofthem selves, and of those things, of which they have no knowledge' (a36:36)

This verse must be recited 3313 times after the 'Isha' salaah, for a period of 21 must also recite any 'Darood Shareef' 11 times, before and after the recitation.

Illness & Sickness

Hadrat Abu Hurayrah (Radi Allahu anhu) says that once the Most Belov ed MesAllah (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) came to me whilst I was ill, and sa

'Shall I not recite upon you that, which Hadrat Jibra'il (alayhis 'salam) had reme?'

I said : 'Why not'

The Belov ed Messenger of Allah (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) said:

'Bismillahi arqika wallahu yashfika min da'inn fiya ka wa min sharrin nafathawa min sharri hasidin idha hasad'

''In the name of Allah I do this spell, Allah give you healing from all illnesses thyou, and from the evil of those who recite and blow from amongst the groups,the evil of jealousy, when he starts to become jealous''

Before praying

Du'as taken from AHadith, before we pray we say :

Allahumma ba'id baini wa baina khataya-ya kama ba'adta baina al-mashrmaghrib,



Allahumma naqqani min khatya-ya kama yunaqqa athawbul abyad min adAllahumma ighsilni min khataya-ya bil-ma'iwal-thaji wal-barad.

O Allah ! Separate me (far) from my sins as you hav e separated (far) the East aO Allah! Cleanse me of my sins as white cloth is cleansed from dirt,

O Allah! Wash me of my sins with water, ice and snow.

(Muslim Shareef)

Hardship/Poor

It is stated in the book called 'Mawahib ladunniyah' that a man came to the prethe Belov ed Messenger of Allah (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam), and saiworld had turned away from me, to which the Messenger of Allah (Salla Allahu 'alayhi wa Sallam) replied:

"Pray the tasbih of the angels"

The man asked "What is the tasbih of the angels?"

The Belov ed Messenger of Allah (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam) said:

"After dawn in the morning, before the sun rises pray :

'Subhanallahi wa bi ham di hi Subhanallahil 'azim ' - 100 tim e

After hearing this, the man went, and returned after a few days and stated:

"Oh Messenger of Allah (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa Sallam), there is so muchouse now, that there is no room, any more!"

Those two sentences are light upon reciting by the tongue, heav y upon the scalJudgement Day , and Belov ed to the Almighty , (Bukhari). Those two sentencesshould be recited ev ery day to ov ercome any difficulty .

Mealtime du'as

Du'a before commencing a meal :

Bismillahi wabarakatillah

(I am eating) In the name of Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala and with the blessAllah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala (Hakim)

Du'a at the end of the meal :

Al-hamdu lillahilladhi at-amana' wasaqana waja-alana minal muslim

All praise is due to Allah Subhanahu wa Ta'ala who gave us food and drink anMuslims (Tirmidhi)

Khatam: Rewards for the deceased

The most common form of action that people do, as a form of recitation for theideceased, is the 'khatm-e-Qur'an', which is the completion of the recitation of tQur'an al hakeem, and then conv ey ing it's reward to those people who are deceahousehold, friends and relativ es, and for the community of the Most Beloved Mof Allah (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa aalihi wa Sallam).



Y ou may also conv ey the reward of reciting the 'Surah-al-Fatihah', which isthe 'Alham du lilah', as this Surah, carries the reward of the whole Qur'an Shait's a much easier way to convey reward to the deceased, rather than hav ing to whole Qur'an al kareem.

Similarly , you may also recite the 'Ya Sin Sharif', which is known as the hearQur'an al kareem, and the essence of the Qur'an al kareem. This can be recited atimes as possible, and then with the recitation of the 'Fatihah ', the reward canconveyed to the deceased.

Remember, there is no limit, to the amount of people that y ou can conv ey the rIt can be conv ey ed to y our relatives and friends, both liv ing and deceased, or iconveyed to the whole community of the Belov ed Messenger of Allah (Salla All'alayhi wa Sallam), as quoted abov e. There is no limit.

'Quls' may also be recited, starting with 'Qul Ya ayyuhal kafirun', then 'Qhuwallahu ahad', three times, and then, 'Qul a'udhu bi rabbil falaq', ana'udhu bi rabbin nas', and then the 'fatihah ' etc.

The last three verses of Surah Al-Baqarah , also hav e a significant effect upondeceased, which begins 'Am anar Rasula bim a unzila', to the extent that any ou do, or pray , can all be conv ey ed to whomev er you wish, whenev er y ou like

May Allah the Alm ighty help us, to do all we can, to send and gain rewthe deceased, and to the Um m ah of the Most Beloved Messenger of AHadrat Muham m ad Mustafa (Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wSallam ).

125,000 khatam

The '125,000 khatam' is for the aid of specific problems.

It is recommended y ou pray this du'a as a family due to the numerical quantity



du'a. The 'khatam' will consist of you reciting:

'La ilaha illa subhanaka inni kuntu minaz zalimin'

Y ou recite the abov e 125,000 times. It may be done in a group, and within a cerperiod of time. When the day of the 'khatam' arrives, and the food is pray ed ov especial supplication should be made to Allah the Almighty , specify ing the proby ou have, the food will then be shared by ev ery one. Insha'Allah, y our supplicabe answered, and by the Grace of the Almighty

Allahummaghfirli warhamni wa afeni warzuqni

Allahumma ahsin aqibatana fil umoore kulleha wa ajirna min khizyid-dunya wazaabil aakhirate

O Allah ! Make sublime in their outcome; all our actions; and sav e us from disgrthis world, and save from the chastisement in the Hereafter

Allahumma-al fi qalbi noor'an wa fi lisani noor'an wa fi basri noor'an wa fnoor'an wa 'an yamini noor'an wa'an yasaari noor'an min fawqi noor'an wanoor'an wa min amaami nooa'an wa min khalfi noor'an wa-jal li fi nafsi noor

zim li noor'an

O Allah ! Make a light (noor) in my heart a light, and in my tongue a light, and ia light, and in my hearing a light, and on my right a light, and on my left a light,

me a light, and under me a light, and in front of me a light, and behind me a limake for my self a light, and grant me a great light

Ameen.

Moving house

This du'a and related information is for when one is mov ing home or to a newcountry . May Allah protect you, and y our house from all forms of ev il.

Y ou may want to giv e some sadaqah or khayrat, and even lillah, in order to beto Allah the Almighty , as it will be a protection for y ou, y our house, and every odwells therein. It may be giv en in y our name, or y our wifes name, or one of you



childrens name, similarly , it may be sent away to another country , to some poostudents of Islam, or other poor people, and they may benefit.

Y ou can also make phy sical worship like go on 'umrah or ev en go to v isitation tshrine of a famous saint. These are the places where protection from all ev ils caasked for.

When you do mov e in, y ou can do a 'khatam' of the Qur'an al kareem, and send reward to whomever y ou like, and in the final supplication, ask for your house tprotected.

Furthermore, y ou may want to consult a shaykh, who will grant you a ta'wiz, foprotection and presev ance of y our house, family , and everything in it. Y ou mayrecite:

'Fallahu khayrun hafizaw wa huwa arham ur rahim in'

Pray ing this endlessly so that Allah Almighty grants you His protection, from epeople and the world. This is free insurance brother, take it on board and y ou wthe benefits of both worlds. May Allah the Almighty protect you, your home, anat all times. (Amin)

Good Company

Alway s remember, if y ou dont hav e any or many friends, then Allah the Almighfriend. When y ou remember Him, He remembers y ou, and He gives you more tcan hav e ev er imagined, and more than anyone else has giv en you.

Y ou should try and keep the company of good people, in return, it will make y o



Y ou should always pray with them and do dhikr with them. It will make y ou feethan y ou what y ou feel now.

If y ou pray :

'Ala inna awliya Allahi la khawfun 'alay him wa la hum yahza

And after y ou have acted upon the above, it will make you closer to the Almighmay recite this as many times as y ou wish in a day . In addition to this, try and rmuch of the Qur'an al kareem as possible, as this is also necessary .

Alhamdu lil lahil lazi ahyaana baada ma amatana wa ilaihin-nushoor

Sayyid al-Istighfar

For forgiveness:

The Beloved of Allah Salla Allahu ta'ala 'alayhi wa 'aalihi wa Sallam used thisexpression - Sayyid al-Istighfar - literally, 'the master of supplications ' to indicatis the best of supplications for those in need, and which will fulfil the need—sinceof forgiveness.

Allahumma anta Rabbi la ilaha illa anta, Anta Khalaqtani wa ana abduka, wahdika wa wa'dika mastata'tu, A'udhu bika min Sharri ma sana'tu, abini'matika 'alaiya, wa Abu Laka bidhanbi faghfirli innahu la yaghfiru adhdanta

O Allah! You are my Lord! None has the right to be worshipped butcreated me and I am Your slave, and I am faithful to my covenant and mas much as I can. I seek refuge with You from all the evil I havacknowledge before You all the blessings You have bestowed upon confess to You all my sins. So I entreat You to forgive my sins, for nforgive sins except You.
