CRMs & Nonprofits
CRM Defined: Constituent Relationship ManagementCRMs Are Mission Critical to Nonprofits.
According to Idealware:
“CRM – Constituent Relationship Management – is the set of processes and supporting technologies used to acquire, retain, and enhance constituent relationships.”
“Constituent” refers to ALL people with some relationship to the organization - donors, funders, volunteers, clients and all other people who help an organization to achieve its mission or are benefactors of the mission.
“Enhancing the constituent relationship” can mean increasing donation amounts and frequency, volunteering, event attendance, client and supporter satisfaction, or other activities that further the impact of an organization’s mission.

Why use a CRM?
Avoid data silosDifferent tools for email list, donations, petitions.- can't ensure accuracy of data and access to data- more difficult to correlate data
Move beyond spreadsheetsSpreadsheets can be tedious, and often an inefficient way of managing constituent information.
Communicate more effectivelyNot all your constituents are the same. CRMs allow you to tailor and segment your communications.

Online Strategy:
CMS & CRM Integration
Open Source CMS ToolsMany nonprofit websites are created with open source CMS (Content Management System) tools like Drupal, Joomla and Wordpress instead of proprietary CMS tools.
Website Redesign ProcessWhen organizations go through website redesigns, the focus is often on CMS tools for managing website content. However, website forms, email subscriptions, event management, donation forms, all involve CRM functions.
CMS & CRM Integration – Which comes first?Organizations often select the CMS first and afterwards look for CRMs that integrate with the CMS of their choice. However, CRM should not be an afterthought. Some would say they are even more mission critical than CMS tools.
