LV FULLY – INSULATED EARTHING & SHORT CIRCUIT DEVICES.It has always been a requirement for temporary earthing and short-circuiting when working on high voltage networks, but that has not been the case on low voltage networks.

The ever increasing installation of embedded generation (emergency generators, solar etc.) presents uncontrolled external power supply into existing systems. This also represents potential increased risk for people working on low voltage networks.

In the EU this has resulted in regulation under EN50110 which requires earthing and short -circuiting on low voltage networks.

For high voltage conventional earthing and short-circuiting devices are applied to the voltage side of the transformer to mitigate risk due to faulty operations and the resulting short- circuit currents.

On the low voltage side earthing and short - circuiting devices are generally considered working earths and are used to manage uncontrolled external power supplies from private power generators.

ARCUS earthing and short-circuiting devices for low voltage in fully-insulated construction are a sophisticated kit system consisting of separate components which can be customised to individual customer requirements.

The primary element of our earthing and short-circuiting kit is a 3-polar device made of highly-flexible PVC insulated copper lead with patented, fully-insulated connection couplings.

Matching connection elements for this device are available for many custom usages. An individual set for low voltage earthing and short -circuiting can be assembled for each customer.

The fiberglass reinforced composite material forms a tough, durable covering that will harden in approximately 30 minutes and fully cures in 24 hours. 3M™ Armorcast Structural Material is packed (rolls) dry in a sealed foil envelope and is a flexible fiberglass knit fabric strip that has been saturated with a curable black urethane resin syrup that starts to cure when water is added. Once wet, the fiber strip becomes tacky and sticks to itself, so it wraps easily around almost any shape or size. Armorcast Structural Material is resistant to moisture, fungus, acid, alkali, ozone, sunlight, gasoline and high temperatures. It combines long life and very little maintenance. 3M™ Armorcast Structural Material is RoHS compliant.

Sheath Repairs Armorcast Structural Material is an ideal solution for sheath repairs as well as repairs to lead auxiliaries since it creates an air-tight, permanent bond when combined with Scotch® cable jacket repair Tape. The tacky fiberglass reinforced material adheres both to itself and to polyethylene or lead. Since Armorcast Structural Material does not require a flame, electricity, or chemicals this is an ideal product to use in most hazardous environments, including manholes and vaults. There are no costly tools, mechanical ties, rails, or clips required, resulting in low cost of installation.

Versatile Structural Strengthening Armorcast Structural Material is perfect for strengthening old cable, joints and auxiliary seals. No reworking is required, it’s ready to wrap straight from the package. Armorcast Structural Material is fast and easy to apply, yet hardens to a strong, maintenance-free coating.

RUDOLPH TIETZSCH GmbH & CO.RUDOLPH TIETZSCH was founded in 1950 in Castrop-Rauxel, initially specialising in precision mechanics and apparatus construction. In those days, the company built test equipment (e.g. flow testers for use with gases), either as single instruments or in small series, for industrial customers in the Ruhr area.

In 1953, the company developed an especially robust and safe voltage tester which possessed a precision display. Designed with a new type of dust-proof rubber casing, the Spannungs-Prüfball (Voltage Test Ball) achieved rapid recognition among heavy industry and energy suppliers as a result of its reliability and highly safe operation.

The success of the Voltage Test Ball led to the decision to expand production to include other test and measuring equipment for use in electrical engineering. This general development in the field of electronics has led since 1980 to the creation of new products which incorporate digital technology. All 3M™ Cold Shrink cable joints include built in components to ensure either good insulation, stress control or adequate earth potential over the screens. With peace of mind and reliability top of our agenda; unlike heat shrink alternatives, a molecular permanent set ensures constant radial pressure is exerted on the cable for the duration of the cable joints’ life. Additionally, many of the joint bodies are comprehensively factory tested before release - something simply not possible with heat shrink due to its’ material nature. Finally, as a result of continuous development and refinement over more than 30 years, only 3M can offer you such a choice in Cold Shrink technology in terms of product cost and flexibility in its application.

STANDARD 3M™ COLD SHRINK JOINTS WITH TAPED ELECTRODE 3M’s newest product, the 3M™ Cold Shrink taped electrode joint offers a viable cost-based alternative to heat shrink cable jointing technology. The electrode in this case is built up by the jointer using Scotch® 13 Electrical Semi-Conducting Tape and the 3M Cold Shrink splice does the rest - still no heat or tools needed at all!

Park the 3M™ Cold Shrink splice body onto the prepared cable, connect the cores and clean thoroughly

Thoroughly grease the connected cable in preparation for the splice body

Once in position, begin to remove the inner coil from the joint body

For extra peace of mind, take advantage of the fact that splice body position is easily checked

Place the earth stocking over the splice body. Ground and secure with 3M™ Constant Force Springs

Insulate the constant force springs with Scotch® 23 Rubber Splicing Tape and then overlay with Scotch® Rubber Mastic Tape 2228

Position the pre-parked 3M™ Cold Shrink Outer Protection Tube over the stocking and begin to remove the inner supporting core

Continue to remove the inner core until the outer tube is fully shrunk, completing the cable joint
