Course Profile This course will enable delegates to become more conversant with diagnosing faults on power cables. The practical approach allows attendees to use a very broad range of fault location equipment. The speakers have been selected for their industrial experience and expertise.

Speakers’ profiles Steve Anderson has an impressive background in cable test equipment and fault location and has worked for Biccotest Instruments, MW Test Equipment and is currently responsible for implementing all sales policies for the Faraday House Group with particular responsibility for the BAUR range. He regularly presents technical papers, runs training seminars, demonstrates equipment and undertakes very low frequency diagnostic testing of cables.

Vince Burgess is a senior consultant within the Cable Consultancy Group at EA Technology. Previously Vince worked as a Development Engineer in the transformer division at Ferranti Ltd. He has over thirty years experience in various aspects of distribution engineering and was responsible for the development of hydraulic methods for locating leaks from pressure assisted fluid-filled cables.

Barry Clegg, recently UK Sales Manager with Hathaway, is now a consultant for training and cable fault location. He is also the author of the book “Underground Cable Fault Location” (available at a special price of £40.00 to delegates) written from his twenty years of experience in the supply industry as well as his time with instrument manufacturers on cable fault location.

Steve McIntosh is a senior technical consultant who for the past eight years has worked within the cables consultancy group at EA Technology. He has particular expertise in condition assessment and failure investigation of cables and accessories. He has also had several years electrical engineering experience in Rosyth Royal Dockyard and on several offshore installations.

Mark Wilding joined the services team at EA Technology in 1991, where he provided a varied range of technology based technical services including high voltage testing and condition monitoring of electricity distribution equipment in both laboratory and substation environments. In his current position as a Principal Consultant within the Technical Services Group the majority of his work is associated with research, consultancy and technical services relating to high voltage cables.

Benefits of attending As a result of attending you will gain:

• An understanding of fault location techniques

• An appreciation of equipment used in fault location

• An opportunity to use fault location equipment

• An awareness of future developments

Who should attend? Engineering professionals working within the electricity supply industry and related fields, practising transmission and distribution engineers, managers, cable engineers and fitters, graduate trainees, manufacturers, suppliers and contractors. The course can be used as a briefing for more experienced engineers and managers including those new to cables, particularly from maintenance.
