MAY I BE GOD’S LOVE

As I write this, I have just returned from Annual Conference, where Bishop Thomas J. Bickerton reappointed me to be your pastor for another year. Thankful for the opportunity to serve the Gospel of Jesus Christ in your midst, I find myself reflecting upon the journey we have been on since my arrival last July 1st . We have had a year of getting to know one another, growing to understand one another, and learning to trust one another. Yet, I know that the process is not complete; God is still working on us and in us.

Poised at the beginning of our second year together, I share with you some lyrics from one of my favorite contemporary Christian songs …

This is my prayer, in Jesus’ name …

Peace to you all, Pastor Adrienne ___

UNITED METHODIST WOMEN

METHODIST RED BIRD MISSION A very big Thank You for the “2086” Campbell Soup Labels for Education (no longer being printed on cans) that we sent to our Methodist Red Bird Mission. That is a lot of soup!! We know that they will help purchase the van/bus. Please keep collecting “BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION” and dropping them off in Fellowship Hall. We have mailed over 4,000 of those to Red Bird for other educational needs. All this since the new year!!

2017 FALL BAZAAR Saturday, October 21st and Sunday, October 22nd. Our very successful “Fall Holiday Bazaar” will be continued with your wonderful support.. Summer is a great time to think of ideas, and what follows are some ideas you might want to consider.

GIFT BASKET CREATIONS Perhaps while you are vacationing you could think of a basket. This has been so successful during the past years and it will, with your help, continue this beautiful tradition. Here are some suggestions for a theme:

Fun & Games Thinking of You Tea for Two A Warming Thought Welcome to Your New Home A Movie Night A Taste of Italy An Anniversary Treat

Sweet Thoughts Waiting for the New Arrival A Treat for Your Pet Chocolate-Chocolate Kitchen Surprise Soup-er Lunch Hiker's Delight

Baskets that sell for under $25 are the most popular. Watch Sunday bulletin, in the Fall, for sign up dates or give your name to Sandy Pullinger or Janet Cole.

HOLIDAY BOUTIQUE All items that would be suitable for Fall, Thanksgiving or Christmas. Great sellers are hand made and antique tree ornaments, unique Christmas items. When you are refurbishing or down-sizing, please think of us!!

GIFT BOUTIQUE Any lovely “re-gifting” items, i.e. lovely scarfs, unused candles, packaged fancy soaps or lotions, hand knit or crocheted items, cute small pillows. (We are thinking small items this year!)

JEWELRY BOUTIQUE This is a big success for the bazaar. We would love any jewelry that you no longer wear or are tired of. We also need boxes in good condition.

DECORATE THE HALLWAYS Do you have a wreath that you no longer use? Or you are a wreath creator?? We will again decorate our hallways with these popular beauties!!

We will receive all items in the Fall, beginning mid-September. Please package items in sturdy bags or boxes and labeled for “Bazaar”. If you need an exception to this request, please contact Geri Hoernes.

Four Saturday morning work dates, approximately two months apart, are scheduled each year. The 2nd 2017 'Green Team' Litter Pick Up is scheduled for SATURDAY, JULY 1st. We meet in the church parking lot area closest to New Hackensack Road at 8AM. We'll loan you a reflective safely vest, a yellow hard hat, a sharp-pointed litter pick-up stick and a supply of clear plastic trash bags so you can better enjoy the roadside landscape for approximately 1 1/2 hours. HARRIET TUBMAN ACADEMIC SKILLS CENTER The Harriet Tubman Academic Skills Center (HTASC) students and staff wish to thank the members of the Poughkeepsie United Methodist Church for their support during the 2016-2017 school year. It was a very successful year at the center! This spring has found our center family thinking beyond themselves by creating felt tie blankets and donating them to the Children’s Home of Poughkeepsie, exploring the creative past by learning about telegraphy at Locust Grove Historic Site, and sparking an interest in engineering through experiments at program.  A special thanks needs to be given to all the PUMC members who have donated their time through helping with center events or taking a moment to listen to an emergent reading at program. I would like to take a moment to thank the members of the 2016-2017 HTASC Board …

Jeff Hart Will Cass Barb Adams Betsy Allen

Curtis Vinson Tim McCoy Shona Tucker Ray Polivka

Your dedication, kindness and helpful hearts have been a Godsend to the Harriet Tubman Academic Skills Center family.  In addition to saying farewell to the school year, with a heavy heart, we will be saying goodbye to one of our HTASC staff members. Our Lead Teacher for 3rd, 4th and 5th grade, Miss RaVae Grant, has been given a great professional opportunity and will be leaving us at the end of June.  We wish to thank Ms. Grant for her dedication and service to the students at the HTASC and wish her luck on her new endeavors.  Consequently, the Harriet Tubman Academic Skills Center is currently looking for a dedicated, caring and energetic person to lead our 3rd, 4th and 5th grade scholars during the 2017-2018 school year. Do you have a passion for working with students? Are you a life long learner? Perhaps God is calling you to become a positive role model for our center’s youth? If you have questions about the position, please contact the HTASC Program Director, Megan Joslin. The Harriet Tubman Academic Skills Center Board would love to welcome new members to its 2017-2018 ranks. If you have any questions about what being a board member is all about, please do not hesitate to ask one of our current members.

YOUTH NEWS

[ John Marrine - Youth Ministry Director ] HAPPENINGS

Another youth group year was celebrated at our year-end picnic where we gathered to fellowship, share a meal, look back on our year, welcome our new 6th graders, recognize our graduates, and acknowledged our Youth Leaders. This picnic is always a bittersweet time in the year but also a good time to pause and reflect on not only the fun experienced at TGIF, lock-ins, and youth group, but also the faith building and fellowship gained through Bible Study, youth curriculum, and retreats, as well as the service provided through mission trips and church and community opportunities. The youth are involved in many aspects of the life of this church, the community they live in, and serving neighborhoods domestic and abroad as depicted in the charts below. I hope that you are as proud of our youth as the Youth Leadership team is.

HEALING PRAYER TEAM [Vickey Carroll]

The Healing Prayer Team is here to pray with you for any need, big or small, or for someone you know in need of prayer. ALL IS KEPT STRICTLY CONFIDENTIAL. There are several opportunities for Healing Prayer

COMMUNION SUNDAYS Healing Prayer is always available during the Holy Communion portion of worship on the first Sunday of the month. Teams are located in the front and back corners of the Sanctuary.

SOAKING PRAYER Soaking Prayer is a precious hour to give to the Lord, and to sit and soak in his presence. No water is involved! This is a time meant to be set aside for you and God − and He will bless this time you carve out for Him. Soaking Prayer is not just for times of crisis; it is for any season of your life. Sit quietly while soft worship music plays, and soak in the presence of Our Lord. You may pray, read the bible, write, or just rest in Him − even sleeping is permitted! Soaking Prayer is available the last Friday of the month at 7:00PM in the Sanctuary. Childcare is available. We hope you will join us!

INDIVIDUAL PRAYER APPOINTMENTS The Healing Prayer Team is always ready to meet with you for prayer. We encourage those who are in need of healing of any kind to come in for a prayer session. No need is too large or too small for God! Simply call the Church Office to request an appointment and a team will be happy to meet and pray with you .

UPCOMING SOAKING PRAYER DATE July 28th and August 25th.
